Is anyone other than me seriously anticipating this album? I loved the first album, and got to see the band play on the Metallica Summer Sanitarium tour. They are very good, and I almost never say that about new bands. They have a unique sound that I dig, and their own look that sets them apart from many other bands. The first single from the new album <b>Toxicity</b>, which will hit stores this coming Tuesday, is called <i>Chop Suey</i>. It has a nice blend of hard, "bellowy" rock woven with slow, melodic, dark undertones that blends together so perfectly I could not stop myself from getting on WinMX and downloading some of the other songs from the album (I never know how people get them before the album comes out, but they are there). The other songs I downloaded had the same feel to them, and I am getting more and more stoked that this is going to be great album. So speak up SOAD fans! Did anyone really like the first album, and if so, are you highly anticipating <i>Toxicity</i>?
Alright. Since I am apparently the only music fan on this BBS who enjoys System of a Down, my only recourse is to recommend them to anyone who enjoys hard rock/heavy metal. They are unique, and take a little getting used to since their vocals are very unorthodox, but as a band they really smoke.
Sorry Raven, I really can't stand System. The only thing I've ever heard of theirs that I liked was that slightly slower song on their last album.
Raven -- I have one SOAD song that I got off a sampler that came with Megadeth's RISK cd. I thought it was pretty cool and different. But anyway, you may think this is funny. Don't know why, but I just figured you would...I sure did. QUIET RIOT'S FRANKIE BANALI RESPONDS TO SULLY ERNA!(Godsmack)
That is pretty funny stuff. I do take offense, however, to the insinuation that someone has a reason to be ashamed of being in Lillian Axe at one point in their life. I loved Lillian Axe, and am hoping to go to one of their shows here sometime this month.
Raven -- I don't think they were making fun of Lillian Axe so much as they were making fun of the fact that the lead singer of Godsmack was making fun of 80s bands, when at least he and his drummer both have roots in that kind of music. Check the main page of that site for what happened originally. That site rocks, by the way. I wouldn't mind having some Lillian Axe, as I've heard they're pretty good now from more than one source. I think their albums may be out of print, though. Just trying to keep this thread alive for ya...
I appreciate the help, Freak and BGM. You are right, Freak, Lillian Axe is out of print...and in fact the band is essentially broken up except for occasional gigs they do (Texas mostly). But I do see what you are saying about the Godsmack singer bashing hairbands...where does he think his style of music evolved from? At any rate, I predict that after this CD comes out (3 or 4 days), this thread will be long dead, and some newbie/infrequent poster will listen to the album and post a thread praising SOAD and their music. Maybe I should bookmark this thread just so I can have the address ready when that happens.
Actually, fade, I don't know where the name comes from. I never really looked into it. I have heard a little of the Slipknot CD, Francis3422...and it did sound good. My only problem with Slipknot is that their act seems to be as much a freak show as it is a display of musical talent. Kind of harkening back to the Alice Cooper days. Some like it, I never really took to it. Plus, I heard Slipknot live before I ever heard any of their material off the CD, and I had a very hard time distinguishing any melody or rhythm to the music. I don't think the band is a very good live performer. But what I have heard off the radio (and off one appearance on the Conan O'Brien Show), they have good stuff. Now they just need to fire about 2 or 3 members of the band. That should get them down to a nice, even 6 or so.
