My annual pilgrimage to Austin is one month away!

I wonder if the Doritos stage will be there this year?

AUSTIN -- Some big name sponsors are bailing out of South by Southwest.

Chevrolet, Doritos and Subway are not sponsoring this year's festival.

Chevy is known for giving people rides around downtown, and Doritos hosted a stage with Lady Gaga last year.

Chevy representatives told KVUE it was a hard decision, but just not in their budget.

Doritos and Subway did not respond to KVUE's inquiries, but some say the city's permitting process is partly to blame.

A South by Southwest spokesperson said they have gained other sponsors, and the festival will have the same number it did last year.

    Doritos stage was legit. RIP

Uber now operates in Austin right? Last year at the festival they couldn't formally operate as a business so they had to offer free rides only.

ACL was advertising uber pretty hard last year. They are good for getting a quick ride over a cab but when surge prices hit you might as well wait a few hours for the rush to die down.

SXSW has gotten so big now. Every aspect of it, from tech to film to music, it's all so much bigger than it was before.

If you're on a strict budget, make sure then to take advantage of all the daytime stuff. You can see just as many acts that are playing later that night but typically for free. You might even stumble upon free beer and/or food.

The first one I went to was the 10th anniversary in 1995. I had a wristband ($50) and the only show I couldn't get into was George Clinton & P-Funk @ the Music Hall. We got into every other show we wanted to. There was almost no daytime stuff then and nothing was free. But you could actually get into and out of downtown. Everything was on or around 6th Street and it was manageable.

    Ahh...the good ol' days.

I think they Interactive/Tech part of the festival really has bloated this festival. Starting about 2006 or so, you began to see a lot more corporate money. Now everything is sponsored. It's cool not having to pay for any drinks but literally everything has a sponsor. I read that that the Interactive part of the festival is where the organizers make most of their money now.

Back in 2006 only about 4000 or so people would attend the festival. Now we are seeing numbers more than ten times that. It's just so much more congested especially on that Tuesday/Wednesday when the end of the Interactive overlaps with the beginning of the Music.

I remember in 2007, Twitter launched at the festival. I was walking by and stopped at their booth and they gave me a small presentation of what their service was about. I walked out of the booth, and turned to my buddy and said this is the dumbest idea I've ever seen. LOL

A wristband is about 160 USD which still makes it the best value of any of the major music festivals. The wristband is more relevant for the night shows on Tuesday-Friday. I noticed at some of the free events (I think Hype Hotel) they were still giving preference to Badge/Wristband holders even if you had a Hype Hotel wristband.

Yes. You must have an Austin area zip code to purchase. Still possible to get them but you'll have to have some help or get them on craigslist.

Only want to see the church and Swervedriver at Emo's on the Saturday but you have to get Guest Passes or something, working on those.
