gonna try and make it to La Zona Rosa to watch Kris Kristoferson and then the Drive-By Truckers thursday night.
i heard thru the grapevine that janes addiction is supposedly playing a show. cant remember the name of the venue, but it was a smaller bar. i also heard neil young at antones. if you look on thursday, richie furay of buffalo springfield has a set and it is at the unusually early time slot of 6:30, giving him an extra half hour - (hint hint) just what i heard...
I wish i could go, but I just don't have enough money. That's why I'm happy that pretty much all the bands going are going to be doing small gigs around Texas for a lot cheaper. Going to see Thursday/Minus the Bear on Wed.
Wristbands were overpriced this year, unless you were one of the lucky ones to get them for $150. There's some good free shows around town all next weekend.
I can't believe wrist bands are that much. When I went in the late 80's and early 90's, it was NEVER more than $25. To go up more than six times in 15 years is insane.
the wristband prices are out of hand, but the badges are $450! its going to be tough going for wristband holders this year. so far, there are only 4,000 wristbands compared to about 8-9 thousand badges. thats why they waited so long to put the wristbands up for sale this year. the badge sales were through the roof this year. and they usually have a 2nd round of wristband sales after the first batch sells out, but that hasnt happened yet and probably wont. and the initial batch wasnt even half of what they usually offer. wristband holders - if you hate standing in line to get into a show only to see a bunch of industry jerks with badges get in ahead of you than you are about to enter your worst nightmare. your outnumbered by at least 2:1. basically, what it comes down to is that the locals and people who have been attending sxsw for years are getting shut out. pretty disapointing.
DEEP will be performing on Wednesday March 15th at Club One 15 (115 San Jacinto St) at 12:00 a.m. http://2006.sxsw.com/music/showcases/band/7125.html
Can someone provide a list of SXSW shows? Of the ones UTW posts I'd most like to see The Hellacopters. Nevermind, think Slick just did.
I had no problem getting mine from Waterloo Records for $150 the day they went on sale. Stood in line for about 10 minutes. I got a friend to buy a pair too, we sold them on eBay, and used the profit to cover the price of our wristbands. So in the end, it's free.
wrist bands are for suckers!!! people, sxsw is all about the DAY PARTIES! all the same bands, FREE! here's a list... http://www.newmusictipsheet.com/SXSWFreeList2006.pdf enjoy!
turbonegro cancelled - they made some reference to the fact that if they are playing sxsw they want to play for music fans rather than a bunch of industry people. not sure if thats the real reason, but thats what they said. they werent the only band to drop out like this. alot of acts are not happy with the direction the fest has taken this year.
hell yes - the free shows are where its at. they have blown up the last few years. usually i find that bands play better sets at the day shows anyway. i will never forget seeing polyphonic spree (all 20 of them) in someone's front yard a couple years ago. im sitting out the festival this year, but im taking in as much free stuff as possible.
turbonegro is playing our afterhours party on saturday night... ...good luck. (here's our day pary info: http://www.vicekillstexas.com/ )
Are they doing the anti-SXSW thing again this year? I've heard that was getting to be better than the real thing in terms of talent.
