http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20010927/ts/switzerland_rampage.html Well, it looks like the American trend is slowly making its way across the globe! And this is suppose to be the most peaceful country in the world!
If this happened in America, we'd have multiple threads discussing it and everyone talking about how tragic it was. It happens in Switzerland and hardly anyone seems to care... That's sad.
It's no wonder that some countries aren't in any hurry to help us when we are attacked by terrorists.
That is tragic, but the U.S. can't be everywhere. I wonder if the other countries reported when there are mass murders and people shooting up stores in the U.S.? The reason people are helping the U.S. is that it effects THE WORLD! I wonder if they report when several people are killed over here in the U.S. Basically it's a thing that has to be taken care of by a home country. The terrorist attack effect different people from different countries, the world economy, and peace.
Then why aren't other countries targeted more? I don't think the so-called Third World resents French foreign policy, Swedish foreign policy, or Australian foreign policy. Just American, and to a lesser extent, British foreign policy.
This happened at the Swiss legislature, that's a lot more serious than a store getting shot up in the US...
I think I get it now. Any time anyone around the world is killed the US should come running in to save that country. Kind of like the world comes running to help us whenever we have disasters, murders, assasinations, etc. I'll be expecting the usual suspects to come in stage right to tell us all how Swiss policies caused this atrocity and how they should examine how they're oppressing their people.
I think the fact that no one gives a damn about people outside of America is a pretty strong reason that people outside of America might not be sympathetic towards us when something bad happens here.
No one is suggesting we should help everyone. Some people get upset that other countries look down on us, and some people b**** about many nations who won't "get behind" us to fight this terrorist threat. But generally, unless it happens to the US, very little attention is spent. So why should we expect any help or respect from other countries?
Like when all those people were taken hostage in Peru a couple years ago... ...that was terrorism. That was an international event, since so many of those taken hostage were Japanese. It was even at an embassy. Ramifications for the international system were easily apparent. But the story was a footnote on American television.
How could you even think that? Any time there are disasters around the world the US is there to help with aid, funds, etc. The US government, American people, and agencies do more for other countries than the rest of the world combined. You're really trying to see what you want to see instead of what's real.
