Should we commit to making Stro our starting PF next season give him the starter job next yr, he'll have more minutes and more confiedence, then he may play with more passion, maybe being yelled at doesnt help him. if he bombs after this, then trade him. if we cant get rid of juwan, he may be good offense off the bench.
cuneo, change this thread to a poll. Ask: Should we commit to making Stro our starting PF next season. 1 Yes 2 No I would love to see the poll results.
yes please but this will never happen with our current coach, who clearly favors certain players even if they aren't performing, if only because they conform to his image of what it means to be a solid, hard-working player (cough cough ryan bowen)
even better idea, have him start the rest of the season, 15 pointless games, lets see what we got out there.
So reward the guy who doesn't play hard with a promotion. Brilliant! Clearly, when rewarded for mediocrity, he will work harder.
I would love for Swift to start of Juwan. Atleast for the last couple of games in the season. But it's not happening.
I don't know if he starts. But if we ever want him to be more consistent next season, we need to give him more minutes NOW. Give him minutes, and let him know he won't see the minutes ever next year if he doesn't play hard. Carrot and stick.
I truly believe given the opportunity, swift can be the player we all envisioned him to be when we signed him. but as long as gundy is here, swift will be wasted. i would'nt be suprised if swift asked to be traded.
He has been given the opportunity. In his NBA career, I believe he's played for 4 different coaches. He's never shown any of them anything to earn more playing time. People don't pay a guy without the intention to play them. Good players earn playing time by demanding it through their play on the court. If Swift has to be given playing time to motivate him, that speaks volumes about his ability and his basketball character. If Swift can only play under a certain type of system (and he has played in a variety of systems now, so that's getting to be doubtful too), that means he's not "all we envisioned him to be".
He isn't an NBA Basketball Player, he is only good enough for the D League. He has such poor basketball know how!
Comon, when he has been given some meanigfull minutres, he has done ok. swift is a confidence player. when he is doing well, JVG promptly yanks out of the game in fave of howard. thats gotta shatter you're confidence.
Did you not see that dunk he had over Dampier? That's speaking loud enough for me. BTW what do you want to see from him? He's been playing well of late. 5/8 shooting for 10 points, 5 boards (3 offensive) and only 1 TO. I know it's not blow away, but... He was the most efficient player tonight, and he only got 12 minutes. I want him getting at least 24 minutes, see what happens with the production.
That's not all that accuarate. By 05-06 Rockets standards, he isn't that bad. MEM is different, they have Gasol, their franchise player, and Wright playing the same position.
He's already getting 20+ minutes a game on average, so he's just about at what you want. His numbers are virtually the same as they have been the last 5 years with two separate teams and a variety of coaches. To think he's suddenly going to be something more under a new coach or with more playing time is delusional at this point. He might develop and become something more, but he'll have to earn it. There's no reason to hand him anything.
Do you really think starting will give this piece of crap confidence? His freakin' paycheck should be enough to want to go out there and bust his ass every night. I hope they trade this slug to Toronto or Atlanta. Hell, trade him to Orlando for Darko.
If you're a good player, you'll find playing time, or you'll be traded for some kind of value. The fact that Memphis simply let him go tells you something. Swift can play some C and some SF, although he's ideal at PF, so there was playing time to be had if he was truly a good, quality NBA starter. Memphis didn't just sit on a lottery pick for 4 years and let him go for nothing without a reason.
I know this is going to sound stupid, but, he's not getting good minutes. What I mean by this is, well, given JVG's substitution patterns, I feel he does not play enough when he is in a rythym and is thrown out there when he doesn't have anything going whatsoever every time. I'm not saying he's played like he's deserved to start on an NBA team, but if he keeps showing this improvement, which he has lately, I think he deserves more and more playing time until he's performing at a consistancy where you can see whether he truly deserves to be a starter or a bench player. He doesn't play like tonight always, but I'm keeping my eye on Stro, because he'll be a big factor next season IMO. Obviously he needs to work on his defense and anything IQ-related. I like his athleticism and his jumper from range. I really think he could compliment Yao well when T-Mac gets back and this team is back in order.
