My dad just brought me over a sh!tload of sweet potatoes. I have never done anything besides make sweet potato pie and baked sweet potatoes with these things before so I have called upon the posters of ClutchFans to post me some recipes that use sweet potatoes. So if you guys have any recipes please post them here and with Thanksgiving right around the corner i am sure they will come in handy for some other people as well.
Mmm I like when they're all smashed up and mixed with bananas and have brown sugary pecans and marshmallows on top. Oh yes, I find a way to make every healthy thing bad for me...
cube them. add salt, pepper, nutmeg and cinnamon. toss with some jack daniels. bake til golden brown on outside, tender inside. mmm.
alternate: same spices, bake 'em until they're not quite browned, run through a ricer, mix in some butter & a little brown sugar (to taste, also depends on how sweet they are naturally), put in casserole dish & top with pecans. Bake for a 15-20 minutes more. Also good with butternut squash.
You can slice them like fries and toss them on a baking sheet with salt, pepper, and a little olive oil. Bake in a super hot oven and eat them like fries. They are really good and much better for you than regular fries.
Cut them into slices like French fried, boil them with water, then dry them by putting them under the sun. They become dry sweet potatoes.
Man we use to eat them Raw with Vinegar Salt and pepper I love Sweet Potatoes and don't get them enough Rocket River
I love me some sweet potatoes. I usually just poke some holes in them with a fork, microwave on each side for about 3 minutes each and thats it. Sometimes I'll then mash it up and mix with a package of tuna, for a quick healthy meal.
I just pop them in the microwave on high for 10 minutes. After they cool off just a bit you can cut them in half and squeeze the innards right out of the skin. Then I throw in some butter, allspice (and/or cinnimon) and nutra-sweet and whip them a little bit and the are freaking awesome.
1. Slice them up into 1 cm or thinner slices. 2. Grease up a cookie sheet/baking tray with oil. Don't be stingy. Lots of oil will make them nice and crispy. 3. Lay the slices out in one layer in the tray. 4. Sprikle on a large ass amount of spices (I recommend onion powder, garlic powder, a bit of cayenne, Montreal steak spice, dill and whatever else you have lying around). 5. Turn over the slices and spice up the opposite side. 6. Put into oven and bake (between 350-450) until crispy, turning once or twice.
Variant on above, BBQ style. -Ice down your beer. -Cut them in french fry depth slices (round slices maybe 1 CM). -Use melted butter instead of olive oil (but if you are trying to be healthier or vegan, fine, stick with olive oil) but otherwise prepare as above. -Wrap and seal in foil. (You can omit this part and just proceed below) -Set on hot grill 20 minutes before you start searing your steak or the same time you start roasting your chicken or Pork Tenderloin. You are 70% there to a great meal. Add a dessert and say sliced zuchinnie cooked in foil right next to the roasted sweet potatos prepared with a touch of balsamic, oliver oil and pepper and you are 100% there.
You know no one mentioned whether we were dealing with yams or sweet potatoes. I usually like Sweet Pot better (e.g., if baked whole), but for grilling and fries yams may be moister and better. I have to admit the real reason I posted is I wanted to give many folks a 2nd chance about grilling techniques with the potato if they haven’t tried it to compliment BBQed meat. This post isn't just about random stuff and sports nonsense but really important and practical stuff
So I saw this thread, and I thought "Oh, he must have heard about how sweet potatoes are good low GI carbs." ... Dude, did you give up on your body composition goals already? Here is a good, healthy, recipe: Put splenda and cinnamon on top, mash it up with a fork, and eat.
Hey, the melted butter in my way adds no carb and reduces the % of calories from carbs. No really, it does.
