yes! this little baby was featured in the latest issue of Computer Shopper Magazine. They had some nice things to say about it. I like being able to 'share' your tunes within 20' of this unit on the FM band!! Too cool!

Seems pretty cool, and it's not too much bigger than my Ipod (it should fit in a pocket, right?). Looks a little strange, though, with that casing.
Does the hard drive crash. I've had problems with that on some other mp3 players like Archos. I hear it happens on IPOD sometimes too. Or there are small skips. That is my biggest cocern.

My iPod locks up every time I go running with it. Sometimes if I walk for a little bit it starts playing again, and sometimes I have to reset it for it to work. And this weekend it really crapped out on me, after resetting it it would play for a while then randomly turn the volume all the way up, after that it started skipping songs while turning up the volume. It did that for a few hours then started working ok again. But I'm not too happy about spending that much money on a portable mp3 player that isn't really portable.
I did, and the second does the same thing. I have the 20 GB model. From what I understand they are going to release updated models soon and I'll go and return mine for a new 20 GB one and see if it works any better.
Ah. I haven't actually used one of the newer models. I've been happy with my original one, but it probably has higher tolerances for shocks and the such like, since it's a smaller drive.
I'm with you Ludicrous. I paid $300 and I'd like to see something work for that much money. Right now I use a $100 mp3 player from RCA for running and a $300 mp3 player for the stairmaster. Seems to work well. But those $300 mp3 players lock up if you are not super careful. Kinda pisses me off. I was reading reviews on the neuros (from their own discussion board) and it locks up too. I'm going to stay away for now. I wish they could solve this problem.
I always wondered how good the shock protection on these hard drive-based mp3 players were. Not so much so that the music won't skip, but so that the hard drive won't fail. I mean, think about it... you're running with a hard drive that has a read needle... you'd think that could do some damage to the drive or the platter. But like I said, I haven't looked into how they protect against this, so maybe there are no problems associated with it.
Phi, some co-workers and I were discussing buying the 128MB and buying the 20GB add-on for another $170+. It would cost more than the 20GB (but only by about $30), but it would mean you could leave the 20GB add-on home for jogging (no skipping or damage to the drive) and when you want to listen to your jukebox in the car, you just reattach it.
From what I understand it has 32MB of ram that it loads the songs into so it only accessing the hard drive once that is used up. That is supposed to help prevent the hard drive taking a continuous beating and reduce the risk of total failure. Maybe they'll put sensors into it to reload the RAM if it detects you aren't moving, or won't try to access the hard drive at all if it is moving too much, maybe just have it beep to let you know it needs to read from the drive. I would prefer having walking for a few seconds to having my iPod be useless.
I also have an original model 5 GB Ipod, and, like Bailey, I've never had problems with it while running, either.
