Okay so the Original Trilogy of Star Wars came out today on individual dvd's... Anyone buying these? And is it more "obligation" than the desire for it? I hear they are the non-CGI original theatrical release versions... I'm more pumped about Lego Star Wars II.
Actually, each one will be a two disc set with the re-released version and the original unaltered version for $30, and I heard that the original movies are transfers off the laserdisc and not from the original prints. It's just another way for Lucas to make a few extra million bucks. The original unaltered movies released by themselves in a box set in anamorphic widescreen...THAT is what I'm waiting for. Until then, George isn't getting my money.
Thanks for the tip... do you think they'll put out the box set like you described? I'll cave anyway and spend the $90. I'm a dork.
What he said...Ok, cool movies, but c'mon, why keep shoving it down our throats...Must have Child Support payments that are due...
I'm quite happy with my Special Editions. People complain about Lucas milking more and more money out of their wallets by releasing so many version of his films. But they're the same people buying every last damn version of them. Now I can understand if you ONLY wanted the original theatrical version; but even then you should've known Lucas would eventually bring 'em out considering how high the demand for them was...it was inevitable.
goddam i swear if they re-released it on beta people would buy it. as for me, no way i have they originals on VHS and dvd. i aint paying for george's 10th summer home.
I have never seen one single Star Wars movie. I tried to watch the recent one on HBO this summer...but I couldnt sit through ten minutes of it ( and that's with Natalie Portman!). I've also never seen one Lord of the Rings movie, Harry Potter, The Matrix, etc. Maybe I just dislike science fiction trilogies.
I had every intention of picking them up until it came out that they were non-anamorphic laserdisc rehashes. It's hard enough sitting through a good-looking DVD after experiencing HD-DVD. There's no way in hell I'm paying money for something that's marginally better than the Definitive Collection set I bought back in 1993.
