    3 1/2 out of 5 stars

FAR superior to TPM, and maybe... maybe better than JEDI... a better movie, though not near as lose-yourself enjoyable.

it spins its wheels for the first 90 minutes, or so, thou it's never boring or bad and includes a really well-done action piece, plus our first kick-ass glimpse of anakin's dark side, then kicks into holy high hell for the final hour or so which i found alternately boring (the... let's say, "gladitorial scene," all of it, did nothing for me) and unbelievably kick ass.

if this light saber battle doesn't stir up the force in your pants (was that out loud?), then do not pass go, proceede directly to the nearest trek convention. if the rest of the film had been footage of a lucas bowel movement, i think the light saber duel would have still redeemed it.

and at last, ep. 4-6 have resonance and i will take to my grave THIS should have been episode 1. the actual episode 1 was a needless, pointless waste of everyone's time. and AOTC's got me giddy for ep 3, where he should pay all this off triumphantly.

I also saw one of the midnight shows and thought the movie was good. The fight scenes in AOTC are awesome, especially when Yoda flexes his Jedi muscle. The only thing I could have done without was some of the more cheesy dialogue. I still would like to see it again.

Natalie Portman is very hot in the film. Steals the screen from the first time you see that sheer, tight white outfit on Tatooine.

As to the film in general, good but not great. The love story doesn't work, which is a shame because the whole saga hinges on it in so many ways.

I also watched the 12:01 show too. It was crammed to the max here in LA. I felt weird being one of the few who didn't dress up in star wars gear. Maybe its an LA thing.

The movie was hella crazy. You should of seen our theater when Yoda walked on screen, we were louder than a rockets game.

Obvious response: "like that's hard to do"

Anyway, while I am more interested in the movie (STW) itself, were there any matrix previews out of curiousity?

edit: found the previews on-line here. Look good, although obviously only a teaser. Sometimes I am more excited by previews than movies themselves for some reason??

What an utter piece of SH.. !!!

The acting was bad, and Lucas ripped off every friggen movie in the Sci-fi genre.

You would think that with 3 years he could at least get the script right.

This movie is pure dribble when compared to classics like LOTR, or Gladiator, or heck any of the first 3 back in the 70s and 80s.

His characters are flat, and so is the acting.

I give it 2 stars only because of some decent 3d Animation and effects.

    I was very very dissappointed.

He ripped off Wing Commander, Babylon 5, Fifth Element, Blade Runner, Gladiator...etc..etc...

Man...he is the richest hack in the world.

The best way to describe it, is a B movie with high production values.

Wow, first negative review to post. I have read some other reviews here and there and I can see why people hated it. I agree that he ripped a bunch of scenes from other movies but it made sense and worked. I was a little disappointed about the Gladiator rip, but who would want to argue to see something like that in a STAR WARS movie? Plus, the whole Yoda scene just took the cake.

I don't think Lucas' goal is for an Oscar Award winning dramatic movie... For a true fan the movie was really good, for the casual fan/movie goer, it was probably OK to bad.

At best, this is a sci-fi B movie with Oscar award winning special effects. Just enjoy it...

Can't say it's a sci fi b movie. There's history here. There's a story to tell. I haven't seen it, but I'm willing to bet it isn't Battlefield Earth.

Haha, I knew someone would chime in with a Fifth Element reference. Who cares?! All of those movies ripped off qualities from all Star Wars movies.

It is hard to grasp the advances that movies now take advatage of and accept them in such a legendary series of movies such as Star Wars, but what do we expect Lucas to do, refuse to take advantage of those advances in filming?

The one thing I do find that is lacking(also from Ep1-TPM) is how the characters aren't explored more and some of the subplots aren't fully developed, but I think most of that is because as a SW fan that has read many of the books that take place before and after the original trilogy have much more detailed story lines and I have a deeper understanding of a number of the more minor characters.

i was only mildy disappointed with II but that was because episode I was such a joke.. I give it 3 stars out of 5

I think they could have made the love story less cheesy and kindegartenish...the lines anakin was poring on her sounded like some lame crap boyz to men would sing..

but yes natalie portman is legit..i just kept thinking the whole time i would love to bag her as much as anakin...maybe I should take that approach when meeting women from now on :

constantly stare at their breasts, tell them 'my heart is scarred without you' and act borderline psycho...but I cant feed a women an apple from across the table with the force.. now thats pimp..imagine all the things you could do in the bedroom..

like someone else said the episode I should have never happened and they should have picked it up from here..but then I suppose jackasses like me woudlnt have shelled out twice..

I actually will go see this one again and enjoyed it but it still doesnt hold a candle to the first 3 yet maybe competes with return of the jedi..

there wasnt enough signs of him (anakin) going to the other side and they didnt really play on that enough..they really seemed to get into the special effects thing and make the story second..they could have saved loads of money tweaked here and there and come out with a more intriguing romance with more substance.
.. I wanted more about anakin and the dark side and less of obi wan being a annoying dork ( isnt obi wan a bad ass as well? he disappointed I thought)....

it should have been a little darker all around...samuel l jackson does not make a cool jedi and did you guys notice there were women jedi's??

sorry I dont agree with that but thats just me..

if yoda is such a hoss why didnt he straight whip that dudes a$$?? ( I know they need a part 3)well it was still cool to see him but in the next one I want to see him straight up and down whoop someones a$$ full on thirty minutes straight yoda style..

whats up with anakin and the golden arm bit??what is that??
