I still vote for the uncle that swam after a shark and got his nephew's arm back.

… except he's in Canada, not America. :) The woman who was killed must be the one who was killed cross-country skiing near Banff a couple of year ago. I knew that the cougar was found feeding on her, but I didn't know that she was still alive. That's pretty gruesome. It was the first Cougar related death in the park in over 100 years, IIRC, so it was a very unusual occurrence. Bear attacks on the other hand are much more common. We have a few each year. You should hear some of those stories, from the ones who live, of course.

I did a quick search but I couldn't find many good stories on the net. This is an old story but the woman recently wrote a book so there is a bit on it.

There are several good books too, but most of the stories I know come from newspaper articles that aren't on line. You have to remember that bears are very big animals. If you meet one on a trail and it decides it wants to mess with you, you are in BIG trouble. Fortunately encounters are not common, and when they do happen, bears usually decide not to attack.

    Yea that was pretty awesome.

Another guy who could get the title is...some may remember this fellow, The guy flipped his tractor and ended up with his arm trapped,so anyway he is out in some remote place and bleeding to death. The guy takes out a little pocket knife and cuts off the trapped arm...then he has to walk like a mile and a half to his pickup and drive himself like another 15 miles to the hospital  Thats one bad mother ******.

If you're a college football or basketball team, the cougar won't put up that much of a fight, so it's really not that big a problem...

80lbs pound Coog, that is nothing special. The guy probably 2-2.5 times as much. Now fending off a Tiger or Lion or large Jag or even a small Grizzlie, that would be something to talk about.

When I went Black bear hunting, I used the powerful .30-06 round, and had to hit it 3 times...The first shot wounded it so it was in a fury. I'd hate to try a Brown (Grizzly) bear pissed!
