some pretty nice waves produced by dennis. anyone out there who surfs get a chance to experience this? http://www.surfline.com/surfnews/2005_07_18_texas.cfm also, there's some nice historical stuff here: www.aintnosurfintexas.com
Man, that brings back good memories. When one storm was churning out in the Gulf, I can remember catching overhead waves at the jetties in Galveston across from Sunrise(?) surf shop. My brothers are in Costa Rica right now, on a surf trip with their boys. Bastards!
Some more photos here: http://www.surfhousesurfcam.com/ A couple of my buddies are in some. I'd be down there if I hadn't ferked up my back. Where in Costa, giff? Nice pic, KC, love the surfergirls. Longboards or short? Last board was a 10'6 Robert August here.
I saw on TV were people boat out to where ocean liners come buy. They catch the wave from the liner, and you can ride if for miles without stopping. If you do fall off there are at least seven waves that follow the first one in. Cool idea #2.
Cheetah you little imp. As I suspected that is a picture of Laird Hamilton at Teahupoo in Tahiti. http://www.surfline.com/surfaz/teahupoo.cfm
Do I know you? I grew up surfing Galveston jetties. Sunrise surf shop was on 61 st. for long time then opened on the seawall I think at 53rd st. I surfed almost anytime there were waves from '69-'78
That was a little before my time. My Texas surfing days were from about '79-'86. We usually went to Surfside or Matagorda, but if it was going to be really big, sometimes we would go to Galveston b/c the jetties seemed to organize the swell to some degree, with the added benefit that you could jump off of them instead of paddling out.
