Any word or news on how Sura's knee is progressing? Is he still on crutches or is he able to perform light drills at this time? What's the timetable for his return? Secondly, are the Rockets counting on him to make any significant contributions this year? Rocket Insiders, please shed some light. There have been conflicting reports floating around as to the extent of the knee damage.
Good question. Too bad our local media isn't all over this with information. Anyone reading Sina for Sura's condition reports??
Thought I should mention I saw him walking around with no crutches at the open practice, didn't notice a hobble.
Good to hear that. Hopefully it won't be too long before we seem him on the court. Regardless of his role this year, he should add to the depth of this team.
i hate when players get injured, especially when he plays for the rockets. however this time, for sura's sake, i think he needs ot call it quits. why come back in december only to (probably) need another surgery in the offseason again. he is too old to get back to 100%. there will allways be nagging injuries from this point on. we need his toughness for sure, but he can't pass or shoot. he may not even be quick enough to guard PG's anymore. before you hurt yourself even more, just retire.
I think we should all go about looking at Sura as "Done". I hope the Rockets are looking at it that way as well. He is an asset to have when healthy but that is something that we rarely see out of him these days. There should be no more expectations that the guy will even come back. Even if he does return his minutes should be carefully limited if we want him to be even remotely a contributor in the post season. I would find that too much of a hassle now since we already have Yao and Mcgrady to worry about being healthy and ready for playoffs. We are also spending alot of effort to get Raefer Alston Derek Anderson and Luther Head into the rotation and getting the team accustomed to playing without him. Heck we even had Mcgrady run point against the grizz. With all the adjustments we are doing now, I say forget Sura. We'll miss his toughness and his rebounding abilities but it is now time to move on. If he proves me wrong great! but I sure as heck don't miss watching him dissappear towards the end of the season and during playoff time last year because of injuries.
I tend to agree. However, the rebounding we got from the PG position will be missed. In the past we've gotten a lot of rebounding from the 1 position. There will need to be a concerted effort from the guards to attack the boards. Hopefully, as he gets settled in, Swift will make up any lost difference.
i think we can win it without him. i am not under estimating his importance to last years team. he was the heart of that team. this year however i tihnk tmac will step up and become the "pitbull". alston is doing well in this system and his shooting and passing ability will help a lot. luther heads development will be huge this year. we have a very deep talented team without him. that's why i tihnk he should save himself more pain and injury by retireing.
I agree; I think the Rockets can win it all this year w/o Sura, but I'd like to have him just in case.
No sprtsman evewr want to call it quits!!!! Especialy because of injury. Look at Hill dudes. You are being very selfish...
I do too, unless their name ends in "obe Bryant" or "mare Stoudemire." Other than that, I hate to see players get injured, especially Keith Van Horn. A healthy Keith Van Horn will be instrumental in helping us beat Dallas this year.
IMO selfish is wanting a guy to comeback and play half a season just so we can (maybe) win a few more games while he risks further injury.
Come playoff time we will want . I hope he waits until March to come back, a month and a half to get back in playing shape sounds like just what the doctor should order - IMHO
Did I miss something? Why are there these assumptions that Sura would need another surgery if he plays again and will always have nagging injuries? NBA player say that no one is 100% healthy by the end of the season anyway. Secondly, T-Mac having to run the offence is not a good thing. Did you guys notice the 5 assist, 5 TO experiment against the Griz? That ain't cuttin' it. Having the option to let T-Mac run the point is great...but as a necessity? Not optimal. I hope Sura can give us 15 mins a game come December, if not, we will need someone can.
