Ryan Hamilton is absolutely right that reproductive freedom isn’t just a women’s issue; it’s a men’s issue as well. It a husbands, brothers, fathers, and families issue.

My daughters are still young, so we have some time to consider our options. I discussed this issue with my relatives, and we all have daughters. Unfortunately, the statistics show that 1 in 5 pregnancies ends in miscarriage. We want what’s best for our daughters and their future families. We simply do not want to risk their well-being, and we are all considering moving out of Texas if these laws do not change. Many of my relatives are doctors themselves. Texas is no longer a family-friendly state, and these laws will drive away good people.

At least you have the means to move to a different state.

    Amiga,
Your thoughts are a true concern I would suspect with many in Texas. I'm not there anymore. Is Texas a straight up no abortion no way?
And if you had to travel to a state, i pray you never have to, that has abortion are there any close down there in the bible belt?

It's not so much about abortion; it's much more than that. Texas has both civil and criminal penalties that essentially make doctors fearful of providing medical care to pregnant patients who, unfortunately, have a miscarriage or face other unfortunate events and need "abortion" services. This unnecessarily puts women's lives at risk.

Personally, we opted out of genetic testings because we decided in advance that it wouldn’t matter. My kids may grow up with our beliefs as well, but that’s up to them. My personal beliefs are my own, and I do not impose them on anyone. I also strongly trust women and their families to make the best decisions for themselves. While those decisions may turn out to be wrong or regrettable later, it is not something the state should intervene in or criminalize.

    Well stated.
I count my lucky stars that:
1: My parents were up front about sex and contraception, and like Lanny P. Griffith used to say on KLOL, "Wrap that Rascal"

    2. My son was an easy pregnancy on my wife and happy and healthy. By easy I do not intend any woman to think what they have to endure for 9 months is EASY.

We have been fortunate and do have the means to move. It is not easy to uproot and relocate elsewhere. I like it here—the people, our hundreds of friends and family, and the communities.

Maternal mortality on the rise in Texas
Exclusive analysis finds the rate of maternal deaths in Texas increased 56% from 2019 to 2022, compared with just 11% nationwide during the same time period.
