I was wondering if anyone over here uses any kind of supplements to help work out. Is it safe to use any kind of supplements? And what exactly is the supplement called Creatine? ------------------ SUCK POLICE!!!!!! I use supplements like Protien shakes and Creatine all the time when I was working out...These that I used are quite safe, I am not sure about other products that are out there on the market though...Creatine give you some energy, you recover faster (makes sore muscles the day after workouts go away quicker so you can work out more frequently) & it give you more strength and stimina to ur workouts. Protien shakes are very very handy if you want to maintain your diet. It help you build muscle faster when you work out while you are recovering. Not eating much protien after the workout makes the workouts useless...My advice is to drink or eat alot alot of protien after you work out, it really helps...you can feel the difference the next day, trust me Are you just starting to work out for the first time? I've been lazy lately, but when I work out I use protein powder, multi-vitamins and vitamin C. For beginners and intermediate people that is all you really need. Creatine really doesn't help beginners very much and in many trainers' opinions is not worth the money unless you are at an advanced level (1-2 yrs) in your workouts or a bodybuilder. If you choose to take Creatine, make sure you drink ALOT of water(8-12 8oz glasses a day and 8oz for every 15 minutes you work out) because your muscles are subject to cramps when on this supplement. My advice, stick with a healthy diet, add some protein powder and a multi-vitamin and you'll make great gains. ------------------ Go vote for Steve Francis for the All-Star game!! I agree with the concensus here. Protein is really all you need to build muscle. Creatine allows you to fuel the muscles for longer, more effective workouts which in turn may help you realize bigger gains and larger muscles faster. But, unless your a bodybuilder...who cares? I don't understand the human mentality where they just have to be huge with huge muscles and take all these supplements to get there. I work out to be healthy, to build some muscle, and to keep in shape. Isn't that really what it is all about unless your a serious bodybuilder? Creatine has not been proven to be safe long term and there is always some talk about it damaging the kidneys or some guy like lost all his hair taking it or whatever...lol. Creatine also works differently on different people. It may do nothing for you and do everything for the next guy. Just taking it alone will do nothing. The idea behind it is to work out harder and longer than you otherwise could. But, who wants to do that? Don't I work out enough as is which includes every muscle group in my body? I don't need Creatine or any other supplement besides added protein. You stop taking creatine and your muscles will deflate, also. It has the effect of water retention in the muscles which makes them larger but once the creatine is deleted from your intake, the muscles deflate. Some counteract that by supplementing with Glutamine but, there again, your going on another supplement in place of one you were on. I think it's a waste of time unless you have something to prove to somebody...like in competition. All that stuff costs money, too. It's not exactly cheap. Ah...do what you want. Totally agree with you, a Gallon of water a day at least when you drink creatine or you'll get dehydrated...creatine is not really that important I don't think, especially for beginners...Stick to Tuna w/out mayo (fat free miracle whip instead), boiled egg whites, and protien shakes if you want to diet...what's your goal? build muscle or just lose weight and get in shape? ------------------
Chen........Tuna without mayo, why thats like ham and no cheese, peanutbutter without jelly, Bill without Monica............somethings just belong together ------------------
hehehe...I used to stuff one can of drained tuna down my throat every day, imagine that...that was BRUTAL...putting miracle whip on your tuna with pickels and onions is not bad though...you have to sacrifice to whip back in shape, can't eat cheese burgers all day ------------------
Thanks guys for your advice. I have been working out for about a year. But I dont see that big of a difference. I want to get bigger, but an expert told me I didnt eat enough for that. Also he told me I should pull back on my running. Six meals a day, (around 4000 calories) and lots of protien and multi-vitamins. Also told me to think about Creatine. But I dont think I want to try Creatine. I wanna be big, but I dont exactly wanna be a linebacker for the Cowboys. So you guys know of any good protien shakes and multi-vitamins I could take? ------------------ SUCK POLICE!!!!!! I've got a few suggestions if you want to bulk up. There is a book I suggest you get which is called "Fit for Life" by Bill Phillips(I think that's his name). He has a regimen for getting into shape in 3 months but it is also a long term thing and requires dedication. All true weightlifters do eat 5 or 6 times per day and usually at the same time intervals every day. They stick to consistency and longevity as the keys. I follow a variation that I made up of "Fit for Life"...not quite the same but similar. Also, check out this guy's site. He supplements with Glutamine, Creatine, and Protein. He knows what's up and is not just making up stuff. He basically states that you can build a good body if you follow his program and work out each major muscle group one time per week. I combined his program and the "Fit for Life" program into my own program which works for me. Although, I was trying to lose some body fat so I created a caloric deficit and am now really slender and decently strong and in great aerobic shape. I plan on stacking the calories up higher to build more muscle using a combination of these programs. His site is at: http://www.musclegaintips.com . I swear by these 2 programs that they will work for you if you adhere to either one. Surf ------------------

I use EAS products...Bill Phillip's company, the guy that wrote the book 'fit for life' mentioned by surfguy earlier...I've read it and his workouts are pretty intensed...tried it for like 3 weeks...if you can keep up with the book, you'll be really chiseled in no time. The type of protien you'll probably want is "whey protien", I heard its the best type of protien there is...I really recommend buying the book, which is quite small and zerox it or somthing to return it back to the stores There is this store down in 1960 I know called "DNC" that sells EAS Products really cheap... ------------------
