Which superstar SFs are we able to trade for (since none of them seems to want to sign here during FA.) Seems like there arent too many top superstar wings other then the ones in Miami, Laker, Boston..... True superstars Melo (possible) Durant (doubt it) ? ? Paid like a Superstar - 2nd or 3rd tier Granger Iggy Roy (used as example, but we will never get him) ? or hold onto our NY picks to see if they will be lotto picks?
You can't tell who you can sign right now. But come Feb when you see teams start losing, then you're going to see some disgruntle players wanting to be traded or teams just want to make deals to better the team. So you can't make prediction now....everything is looking good now for all teams. If Nuggets are playing great with Melo this season...why would they trade him?? But if they suck...you can see there may be a way to move him. So it all depends on how the season go.
Iggy and wallace are stars, but cant carry a team like a durant, melo, even like the old 25 yr old sheMac (b4 i get clowned sheMac was really good the first 2 yrs, then sux a$$ the rest of his term here) seems like there arent too many young VC, Pierce, sheMac, or kobe anymore that can be had.....
Denver Receives: Shane Battier Kevin Martin Jordan Hill Jermaine Taylor NY Picks Houston Receives: Carmelo Anthony Aaron Afflalo With Melo most likely bailing when his contract expires, Denver mine as well get something nice in return right now. They get top 5 SG in Martin, defensive specialist and veteran in Battier (also an expiring), nice young pieces in Jordan Hill and Jermaine Taylor, and nice picks for the future. Lineups would look like.... Denver: Billups/ Lawson Kevin Martin/ Smith Battier/ Harrington Kenyon Martin/ Balkman Nene/ Andersen Houston: Brooks/ Lowry Lee/ Afflalo Anthony/ Budinger Scola/ Hayes or Patterson Yao/ Miller Both teams imo get better.
Durant just signed an extension and seems like he truly wants to win in OKC so mark him off the list. Melo would be great but he isn't signing an extension here so it would be a Randy Johnson type deal. I would think Iggy is the new/old target but I read somewhere Detroit was also looking to move Prince, so he might be an option for a reasonable price and he carries a nice expiring contract with him.
Iggy, Granger, Prince...are all good players, but none of them are worth their contracts or make the Rockets a favorite for the championship. At this point, I want a superstar or stay the course. DD
I don't think we really need a superstar, but we at least need to be on the lookout for a Battier replacement. Can wait until next off season or get something done at the deadline.
Weren't you saying a few weeks back that we're title contenders as is? We aren't going to be favorites with Miami and LA out there. There's really nothing DM can do to occupy that role. DM thinks highly of Iguodala. His numbers are solid across the board. Love the FG %. Granger is awesome. 25 ppg the last 2 seasons. It's the health that is worrisome with him.
the rocketys are not getting a superstar (look what happened with bosh). if melo leaves denver he's going to new york to play amare and recruit another superstar. ya'll can get that out of your dreams now. best bet now is to go after tier 2-3 stars.
Yes, I think if everything goes well we are title contenders, but that is not a favorite, now is it? And I like all of those players, think they would all be an upgrade, but do not put us over the proverbial hump, and their contracts would hinder us in other areas. If that makes any sense at all. DD
I think we do need a superstar but a different kind of superstar. Someone that is reliable and can take over at any time and dont' need to hog the ball. Someone that don't pass around when we really need him to score (a la Tmac). Someone that can't be afraid of contact and need to attack the rim much more (a la Tmac NOT). We need someone like........ CARMELO!!
I can agree with you on Iggy but Granger's contract isn't incredibly bad for his production yet I doubt the Pacers move him considering they have another quality player to pair with him in Collison. I will disagree on Prince, the guy is getting up there in age but his defense is comparable to Shane's while his offense is much much better and won't disappear from time to time like Battier tends to do. All that along with in his favorable contract and championship experience...its a low risk, high reward move IMHO. Brooks/Lowry Martin/Lee/Taylor Prince/Budinger Scola/Hayes/Patterson Yao/Miller/Hill Oh yea and that would create mis-matches all over the place against certain teams with Prince's ball handling and length.
I'm liking this idea to go after Prince. By favorable contract I assume you mean the fact that it is expiring, because the amount seems high. Still, we'd have to give up something worthwhile to the Pistons.
Yea, favorable because it is an expiring deal and we wouldn't be stuck with a long term financial hit. I would imagine a package of Jeffries, Hill and a pick would get it done thus only looking on adding 3 million or so in salary (6 million since we are in the tax). Morey has said, if it helps the team the Tax is no issue and, with the Ariza trade, the hit wouldn't be as painful.
