and some scoff at me when i say hakeem is probably the best 2-way player of all time. there's nothing he can't do (outside of 3s of course). yao is not hakeem. let's get over that point and put this expectation on him. that matchup v. okur should let you know that. hakeem did this v. HOF centers.
Agreed, superstar centers carry their teams. And the center you referenced is arguably the greatest superstar center in the history of the league. Regardless, I think it is fairly evident that Yao is not going to be a superstar center during the course of his year. It looked like he was on the cusp the season he broke his leg, but he has regressed significantly since then and I think his ceiling will only be that of a "star" center, not a "superstar". And it is not going to help him any that the only two players that can thrown him a decent entry pass are gone (rafer and tmac).
Olajuwon could shoot the three, he had amazing range !! The only problem is he didn't shoot them that much. What is this thread supposed to point out, that Yao is not carrying the team ? That Olajuwon was a leader and Yao is not ? Yao was NEVER and I mean NEVER put in the position to carry the team. When he came into the league it was Francis & Mobley and after that it was Tracy, even though it was supposed to be Yao and Tracy but Tracy was too good to be just a role player. Now the time has come for him to lead, hopefully Artest will stay humble and does not try to be another Tracy.
God bless 'em. I can never get enough of watching Hakeem. Thanks, cabbage. What a stat line! Robinson was just helpless to stop him.

yao is 29 this season. Dream Olajuwon's "prime" were in his early 30's so there is still hope. carry on the torch and tradition big yao!! season--age-g-ppg 1992-93 30 82 26.1 1993-94 31 80 27.3 1994-95 32 72 27.8 1995-96 33 72 26.9
btw if Op, if you point of the thread is to call out yao to carry this team, is hopeless because yao is never going to that(hopefully im wrong) and he is not a superstar, he is more like a all star player.
Yes, if you have three stars, with some good role players, you can carry the team too. The rockets do have this kind of team before Tmac got injured, and the lock room was full of smoking.
Wow, I haven't seen clips of the Dream in such a long time. He's doing spin moves that guards like Kobe and Paul are doing today. Can you imagine that of someone his size?? Whereas, it takes Yao 5 seconds to do that same spin move. Makes you appreciate what you have had.
