This bad boy has 160 mph sustained winds with 195 mph gusts. It's about the same strength Katrina was at her strongest, except this one will probably hit China as a cat 5 instead of weakening like Katrina. Be sure to keep all the Chinese clutchfans out there in your thoughts tonight as it hits landfall. If we could get some updates from China on this massive storm, that would be cool, too.
Looks like a bad boy but oddly doesn't look that large since Taiwan is about 250 miles long. Katrina had storm force winds extending 200 miles from the eye (400 miles across) and the storm itself was 540 miles across at landfall. Any clutchfans here in the path?
dont they get hit by typhoons all the time? i dont mean it like that though. i mean, dont they get hit my typhoons? 200 mph winds, sounds like a bad mother though.
I know you don't mean it bad but this is extremely strong for a typhoon. aren't they supposed to generally be weaker than canes? I hope every comes out alright over in china.
It is my understanding that they do not grow as fast, due to cooler waters, but can grow into monsters because they go weeks without hitting any significant land mass to disrupt the storm.
aren't typhoons the exact same thing as hurricanes, that's just the name they're given in the pacific ocean or in that region? edit: nevermind i see what you're saying.
So far 530K residents are evacuated in ZheJiang, according to local news here in HK. Here is the People's Daily article... East China braces for typhoon
