I was thinking about having my wife's surprise b-day party at Melting Pot this Saturday, but I've heard nothing but lukewarm reviews for that place. So I need to pick another restaurant and fast. Americas - been there tooooooooooo many times. Fogo - parents and wife are not carnivores. Marks - freakin won't take reservations for a big party on Saturday. I know a bunch of other nice restaurants, but can't make up my mind. Brenners - my favorite steakhouse, but not everybody is a steak eater. No Italian, because I don't like it. Any recommendations?
For midtown, heights, montrose areas: You can't go wrong with Tapas for a big party, and Catalan is the new popular one. Hugos (upscale Mexican) is super nice (imo) and fun for a party, too. I think Veritas (chef from Aries) actually has a party room. The Shade is always good, as well as T'afia (might not have enough room). I really like Julia's Cafe, too.
Tafia and Catalan both said that they could only accomodate parties of 8 (maybe 6) and less when I called for my girl friends bday.
Gravitas on Taft - Modern Decor and classic food (the Steak Frite is amazing) its a nice, fun non-stuffy place. Masraff's - A traditional formal restaurant with a very cozy ambiance and separated rooms. Its on South Post Oak lane.
How about Vic & Anthony's, I'm sure they have more than just Steak. Or maybe, a nice Seafood reataurant, McCormick and Schmicks.
that would be awesome. why does everyone want to do something "nice" on their birthday? is your entire life a cliche? get up and get beside yo'selves people. think outside the box for once. ps- please don't yell at me
