I just accidentally stepped on my macbook while going to bed. Heard a crack. Hoped it wasn't anything serious, turned it on, and saw an internal crack going across the screen with a little bit of color disfiguration. Any suggestions on how to get it fixed?
dont worry too much its actually quite easy to replace.. I did a friends in about 20 mins.. I dont know what version of the macbook you have but just google it.. there are plenty of DIY's and places that sell replacement screens for about 100-300 bucks GOOD luck https://www.etechparts.com/Apple-Ma....htm?gclid=CJjNgbTR3awCFcRgTAodlhSj_A&Click=2
Awesome! I'll look up some videos on youtube. The screen on that link, would it fit on a black macbook? Don't know how to tell which version I have.
Not sure if you wanna go this route. If you do, make sure this applies to your version of the MacBook. The replacement LCD screens go for around $150 or so on eBay. Last resort: Turn it into a desktop After a quick Google search, it looks like replacing it through Apple will cost many hundreds of dollars. Some said 500-600, another forum said around 1250, which is insane. Either way, good luck.
Is it still under warranty? If it is, you may want to take it back to Apple and have them repair it. Its going to cost a lot though. If its not under warranty, you may want to fix it yourself. Its not that difficult. You can get the screens online, and there are videos on youtube. If you aren't confident in your handyman skills, you can probably find someone on craigslist that will do it for a lot less than Apple. Edit: SunsRocketsFan beat me to it.

You'd think the alum casing would protect against feet like a different laptop would. I wonder how much that fancy backlight has anything to do with the cover strength.
Apple wouldn't cover it under warranty and would charge you 3x what it would cost to do yourself Ha. So best thing would be to cool for a screen on ebay.
Can't say about the macbook but my son did the same thing with his laptop that was less than a month old. I bought an OEM screen from laptopscreen.com. They shipped fast, have online instructions and carry a warranty - though stepping on it is not covered. I had it good as new in 20 minutes for less than $80. [Edit]Just make sure you work on the macbook on a tile floor or barefoot. You don't want to make things worse by giving your macbook a pop caused by shuffling your feet with your fresh out of the dryer socks.
