Suns, Wolves & Celtics Discussing Blockbuster
    June 27, 2007 - 12:03 am
    ESPN.com -
Jim Gray reported Tuesday night that a new trade is brewing which would make Kevin Garnett a member of the Phoenix Suns .

The Suns, Timberwolves and Celtics are discussing a trade that would see the Suns get Garnett, the Celtics land Shawn Marion, and the Wolves acquire Boston's fifth pick as well as a number of unnamed players.

Earlier in the day, Ric Bucher reported that the Lakers' talks with the Wolves about Garnett had fallen apart.

The current blockbuster depends on whether Marion would agree to a contract extension with the Celtics. Marion can opt out of his contract after next season. According to Gray, the Suns have already spoken to Marion about the potential trade.

It would be totally unfair if the Suns got Garnett and only gave up Marion and draft choices. They should be forced to give up Barbosa too, at least. Nash, Amare and KG on the same team is just sick sick sick.

I don't see how that team could lose barring injury. KG is the perfect big-man for the Suns system, outside of Amare.

Makes sense for all teams except Minny. Boston gets a proven player in Marion to pair with Pierce and keeps its rising star in Al Jefferson. Phoenix obviously gets KG. Minnesota gets to rebuild with the #5, but the "unnamed players" better be Barbosa/Kurt Thomas.

would love to see this happen b/c Suns would be even more fun to watch and both Nash and KG can finally get their championship.

You would have to think the Wolves would also be getting the Hawks pick next year. I am tired of all the McHale/Ainge talks.

what's up with giving garnett up for ****. if all phoenix gives up for garnett is marion then that's a freaking steal. i'm assuming barbosa and/or atlanta's pick next year is involved otherwise i can't comprehend this.

Minni must receive Barbosa + Future Picks at a minimum, I would be demanding a future 1st from both Boston and the Suns.

Minnesota would probaly get Green, Barbosa, the #5 and Atlanta's 08 pick via Phoenix. It will never equal Garnett, but nothing ever will. McHale would finally do right by KG.

You've got to give it up for the Phx GM if he pulls off this deal WITHOUT giving up Amare. Pair that with the potential trade with the Bobcats for the #8 pick? That's just scary.

    Amare
    Garnett
#8 Pick from a deep draft
    Bell
    Nash

it's like they say, in the west....if your roster is not improving, it's getting a lot worse.

Minny is going to get robbed. When you are forced to trade your superstar, you are going to get robbed. With McHale at the helm, they are going to get robbed big time. I just hope it is not a Western Conference team that robs them.

i dont know if this is necesarily improving if phoenix kills their depth in the process of doing this. i mean stats wise garnett is gonna give you pretty much the same marion did. maybe 2 more points and 1 more rebound. but if you have to give up multiple rotation guys in a 7 or 8 man rotation then they arent gonna get much better. essentially, they would be giving the 40 ppg that marion and barbosa scored. who is gonna make up the difference. imo phoenix has the best team that they are ever gonna have right now, they have perfect chemistry and shouldnt change it if its non broken.
