http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/92451 Suns Trade James Jones To Portland June 29, 2007 - 1:27 pm East Valley Tribune - The Oregonian reported late Thursday that the Suns will ship forward James Jones to the Blazers – a deal that will net Phoenix future considerations. Jones has one guaranteed year left on a contract that pays him $2.9 million and a player option of $3.15 million for the 2008-09 season. With the Suns over the threshold, that $3 million would have been subject to the NBA’s dollar-for-dollar luxury tax penalty. Jones averaged 6.7 points in 76 games last season (seven starts), shooting a disappointing 36.8 percent from the field. He started six of Phoenix’s 11 playoff games, playing 15.5 minutes per game and averaging 5.0 points and 1.4 rebounds.
This is probally the "favor" the Suns requested when they sold their pick to Portland. How long has Steve Patterson been with Portland? This guy is just flat out amazing. I wish we kept him.
The only reason that steve patterson is "amazing" is because his owner is the richest man in the nba and money is no object.

Leiweke has also held executive positions with the PGA TOUR, the NHL's Vancouver Canucks and the NBA's Golden State Warriors.
Looks like they fired him this year. If it isn't obvious, I'm a Rockets fanboy who doesn't have much knowledge regarding other teams. Well, my Basketball IQ might be pretty low because I'm just a casual fan.
Yes, it's Kevin Pritchard, one of the money ball guys that uses the Protrade system by those MIT guys. Here's good article on it. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=130970
Jones was always a little too inconsistent. As their 8th rotation guy he was a little weak. But dumping Jones wasn't as good as dumping Banks would have been. Maybe they are making that play for Grant Hill.
man if only les alexander was loaded. maybe those vegetarian companies should pay him more for having their "dakota beef" on the rockets website
Not that I think Jones was anything special but he was in their rotation for good reason. Weren't the Suns a little shy on bodies last year? How does throwing away rotation guys really help?
