Haha. The plot thickens. Not that I have any sympathy for the Suns - Kerr probably made the mistake of his lifetime by trading for Shaq, but at the same time it's hard to believe that Brent Barry's return to San Antonio was not prearranged. He has a point - why in the world would you release Brent Barry instead of Donyell Marshall?
Agreed totally. In fact, it probably makes too much sense to actually ever happen. Regardless of the seemingly honest search that Barry went through to weigh his options, I still think it's fairly obvious that a "wink, wink" deal was involved. Maybe not necessarily to the degree that Kerr is suggesting but i'm sure once this trade was made, a big selling point was the the Spurs' belief that they could get Barry right back.
What should really be illegal is Kerr working as a GM. It's a damn shame what that brainless man did to the Suns organization.
Oh yes, I forgot about that. I let my hate for Kerr to get the best of me. Steve is still a brainless dimwit when it comes to commentating on games tho.
Of course the Spurs had a wink, wink deal with Barry. As did the Mavs with Jerry Stackhouse before he opened his big yapper. But you can't blame these teams for what they're doing. It's the responsibility of the NBA to change the rule so a player can't return to his old team for at least the remainder of the regular season and playoffs. The Spurs seem to be in the middle of a lot of controversial deals right now though. Kurt Thomas being handed to them(along with Barry being cut so he could return). The Suns being destroyed by the Shaq trade thanks to Kerr(a former Spurs player). It all stinks.
It's r****ded that players aquired in a trade can't be included in another trade for something like 90 days, but a traded player can be released and picked back up by the original team within 30 days. Personally, I think they shouldn't be allowed to go back to the original team for 180 days. That would immediately squash the suggestions of "pre-arranged deals".
One more reason the NBA needs to close that loophole for good this off-season. Either you can immediately resign with the old team but you lose playoff eligibility or you can't resign with the old team until after the season. The reason why I mention the first is that the player's union *could* contend that the bought out player shouldn't have their options limited, especially if it might cost them a buck. Strip their postseason eligibility and this becomes a non-issue quick. The other loophole they need to close is this mid-season S&T deal. Dallas using KVH to make the Kidd deal happen is just as fishy. I'd say anyone signed after the season begins can not be traded for at least 30 if not 60 days. Evan
Why is everyone writing off the Shaq trade already? They just made that trade so it will take some time. The Suns have yet to make it to the Finals with their fast paced offense, so its time to make a change. You need some type of half court game. Look at all the past teams that won the title, those aren't the Suns run-n-gun type teams. The Suns weren't going anywhere even if they didn't make a trade.
KVH was already under contract with the Mavs so it was not a sign and trade. Also, there is already a similar rule to what you are asking. I believe it's something along the lines of you can't trade players you just traded for or signed until after a certain amount of days, unless he is traded by himself.
I'm not necessarily writing off the trade, but I don't think it made the Suns better. Shaq doesn't improve their defense, especially since they gave up Marion to get him. And their offense looks worse now as well. Who cares if he gives them a post-up threat in a halfcourt set? That's not how they've won games the last 3 seasons.
he is just mad because BArry chose a champio over his bunch of underacheavers. he screwed his team out of the Barry sweepstakes by trading for a washed up center who has completly screwed up their teams advantage. so he can say what he wants but its his own fault that barry is going back to SA. and i bet he would have come to the ROX of Yao didnt go down
