http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1833028 looks like they are eager to spend their cap space. $65M for 5 years is a lot of money, in my opinion.
I guess that means no sign and trade involving Shaq. This should probably be in NBA Dish, but it could indirectly affect the Rockets because we need to monitor the shifting in the balance of power in the West. Still... WRONG FORUM!
I think 45 million would have been more reasonable... He is arguably a top 5 -7 point guard in the league... Phoenix now has a pretty good team when u look at it... Nash, Johnson, Marion, and Stoudamire That's a nice core to me... But not nearly as nice as... Yao, McGrady, and...wait a second...you don't need anything else... I have a feeling that McGrady will dunk over Stoudamire and get a technical for taunting...
So much for playing wiht Nowtizki for the rest of his career. Can we say the Mavs are on the way down?
Post it here just because Nash's name came up during discussion for PG, although we all knew he would be too expensive to get. Anyway, Suns gets themselves someone to make plays.
Cuban was right in only offering 4 years. I am not sure Nash will be able to hold up for 5 years. Nevertheless, this to be is a HUGE loss for Dallas! Nash had a really nice chemistry with those players and to me even though they might have Daniels and Harris, they arent NEARLY as experienced as Nash. I think this is a sign of the Mavs taking a STEP BACK! Which of course is good news for the Rockets. BTW, I guess this Nash to Suns deal isnt official until July 14th since we are in the moritorium. I suppose since it isnt official Dallas could match the offer on that date? P.S. Suns knew Kobe wasnt leaving LA. I agree, I think Kobe stays in LA.
Mavericks sources said Cuban was reluctant to give Nash more than a four-year guaranteed contract because of fears the 30-year-old couldn't physically handle no more than 32 minutes per game. I can't believe they use the double negative at ESPN. I thought only NBA players talked like that...
Thank god I'm not a Suns fan. Nash is a really solid player but that kind of money on somebody that old...... that has disaster written all over it.
Nash is one of the only players I think is actually worth a big contract. Looks like Cuban wants to take a run at Kobe Bryant.
So the Suns traded away Marbury and his fat contract and then ended up using ALL the free money to bring in Nash and sign him to a fat contract? Intersting.
The 3rd best team in Texas is now settled. Cant believe Cuben let his star player take a walk for nothing back.
I think Suns just paniced, seeing what can happen to you with a **** load of cap room (Jazz) and being rejected by Tmac and Kobe. Amare is overrated, Marion is a good player but doesn't lead the team nor make teamates better, Johnson has potential but that is just potential. Suns are not not attractive to top FA's. They had to take preemptive move to secure someone with leadership. They found Nash.
You know Cuban had to be gritting his teeth to see a SUPERSTAR like McGrady go to Houston with Yao Ming. And then to add insult to injury the Mavs LOSE their star PG to a western conference team! Dallas has to be spinning now! Can they keep up with San Antonion and Houston?
I agree, the Suns DID panic. They lost out on McGrady. They knew (and rightfully so) that Kobe was not going to leave LA so they needed to get SOMEONE to take their money. Someone that would be a difference maker. Nash will be a big help and might really help Stoudamire. But they will always lack the man in the middle and that will always make the difference! Something else to keep in mind. Phoenix traded away Marbury because of his FAT contract. Now they give Nash huge dollars? Marion has a max contract. Think Stoudamire will want a Max deal? How about Johnson having a big deal too? Can they afford it? NO Chance! Getting Nash signals the end of Marion in my opinion. They can't afford more than TWO max deals and Nash nearly has one and Stoudamire will get one.
