Rumors are going around about a Kidd/Cliff Robinson for Rahim/Bibby trade. This would be a great trade for the Suns, in my opinion. Any thoughts? Legal issues yield Robinson, Kidd trade rumors Norm Frauenheim The Arizona Republic Feb. 16, 2001 With Thursday being the NBA's trade deadline, the Suns figure to be the subject of intense speculation. Off-court problems have attracted calls from rival general managers and have generated rumors that the Suns are trying to deal Clifford Robinson, who faces charges in Scottsdale for driving under the influence and possession of mar1juana. To a lesser extent, guard Jason Kidd also has been mentioned in reports, all speculative. Kidd also faces a misdemeanor charge for domestic assault in Paradise Valley. Ironically, both Robinson and Kidd are scheduled to appear in court next Thursday, although both appointments could be delayed. The Suns will be in New York that day, preparing to play the Knicks the next night at Madison Square Garden. Some of the speculation comes from Web sites that are fantasy camps for wannabe general managers. In large part, the Internet has fueled talk of a deal that would send Robinson and Kidd to Vancouver for Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Mike Bibby, a former Valley prep star. Vancouver is another team that figures to be a target for calls and rumors because of the Grizzlies' troubled financial state and probable relocation from Canada to a U.S. city. Robinson is aware of the speculation. He also understands that a trade is always possible. "If that's the answer, I don't know," he said. "That's for the guys upstairs (management) to say." Robinson says he is happy in Phoenix and is committed to the Suns. "The fans have been supportive," he said. "Things have happened. We have to get past it. We have to survive." ------------------ When we tire of well-worn ways, we seek for new. That would be great, because the Suns would lose that leadership, and likely fall out of the playoff race for this season. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
The Suns would have to be absolutely crazy to go through with that. It would take a lot to take away Jason Kidd from me...maybe SAR, Bibby, and #1 picks for the next 3-5 years. Thats how much Kidd is worth to them IMO. Good point though, ZRB, it would I think help us grab that last playoff spot as Pheonix would likely fall out. ------------------ "Steve is good. I am guessing that one is a million to one! Isn't the reason Vancouver wants to trade so much, and the reason they are struggling etc...down to the fact that Bibby and SAR apparently hate each other. Seems unlikely any team would therefore take the two of them in a package. ------------------
I find it hard to believe the suns would be stupid enough to give up one of the most complete players in the league. ------------------ Someone who is about to admonish another must realize within himself five qualities before doing so (that he may be able to say), thus: In due season will I speak, not out of season. Look, I know that Jason Kidd allegedly beat up his wife, but to send him to VANCOUVER?? I think that's classified as "cruel and unusual punishment" ------------------ If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding!!
I tend to agree with Bob. As good as Jason Kidd is, the package of Shareef and Bibby would be too much for Phoenix to pass up. During the last year or so, Kidd has been injury prone. Meanwhile, Bibby is still young and while he's no slouch now, his best years are still ahead of him. Plus, Shareef is miles ahead of Cliff Robinson. Good trade for the Suns. They get younger and better overall. The only problem is messing up this year's chemistry, but I honestly don't think they have a chance at the title this season anyway. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
That's the first I've heard of this rumor. What is your source? ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
I don't know if they hate each other, but weren't Bibby and Reef the two that were jawing at each other on the sidelines or something because one wouldn't pass the ball to the other? I think that's where the rumor started. ------------------ "Ive seen more class at a Pig Humpin Contest ." -- moestavern19 makes headlines again, and in the process leaves little doubt as to what Saturday nights in his hometown of Lompoc, California are like.
This would go against all the previous rumors about Vancouver wanting to reduce salary. I can't see this being anything more than a rumor that may have been started by a fan. Dreamers, ya gotta love 'em. ------------------

I would think so. ------------------ When we tire of well-worn ways, we seek for new. This restless craving in the souls of men spurs them to climb, and to seek the mountain view. -- Ella Wheeler Wilcox
