Suns And Clippers Talking Barbosa Trade? Jun 24, 2008 9:57 AM EST The Suns and Clippers are reportedly discussing a deal that would send the No. 7 pick and Corey Maggette to Phoenix for the No. 15 selection and Leandro Barbosa, according to ESPN.com. The deal can only be approved if Maggette decides not to opt out of his contract. If he does decide to opt out, he cannot be signed-and-trade until mid-July. http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draf...ry?columnist=ford_chad&page=Draftnotes-080624
another bad move for the suns. kerr is going to become the new isaiah. maggette can't spread the floor for shaq/amare. their offense will grind to a halt.
i dont know about sending that 7th pick. i think they can get more for maggette and the 7th pick and barbosa and the 15th. Barbosa is a great change of pace player coming off the bench i dont see him doing as well as a starter or having to be the primary scorer on that clippers team (he could be if brand leaves as well) sign and trade maggette for some picks at least build for the future if you cant get a better player back in return. that 7th pick can be someone who is an all-star or borderline all-star in this years draft. a lot of good talent in the top 10
Good trade for the Suns if they get the 7th pick they might be able to get Joe Alexander, Russell Westbrook, Eric Gordon, or DJ Augustin.
BarBosa + Mobley + #7 Pick + Brand and Kaman How does that look to you? I'm on the fence with it Rocket River
He'll space it as well as Grant Hill can, who needs to be replaced anyway. And with the #7 they can pick up Eric Gordon if shooting is still a priority. If anything this is a bad trade for the clippers. Barbosa's not a PG, he's worse than Maggette anyway, and they're trading for a lower pick on top of it.
Suns get slower, have no backup at all for Nash, but get a good upgrade at the 2 and a very nice lottery pick. Clips sell low on Maggette, but at least get something for him before he walks and they badly need a 1 guard (even if Barbosa is a "pure" combo guard) given Livingston's injury issues. Overall, pretty fair trade. Neither team should feel great about next year, though. Washed up Shaq is going to kill the Suns. Evan
no f'ing joke. how is this even remotely fair? the suns are getting the better player, AND moving up 8 spots?
the problem is that they are sending that 7th pick along with maggette to the suns for barbosa and the 15th. And brand is probably going to opt out and be a FA this year there is no guarantee he will be back next year considering the state of that team right now and that their best young player plays the same spot on that team. so its most likely: barbosa mobley #15 al thorthon Kaman god knows who is going to come off the bench there i think Ross is a FA this year too. that is a lottery team again next year.
Good outlook for the Suns. Maggette can provide a little of what Marion used to give them (athleticism, scoring, rebounding) and they can replace Barbosa with the 8th pick. Terrible deal for the Clippers if it goes through. Barbosa cannot be a starting point guard.
The fair trade would be Corey Maggette to Phoenix for the No. 15 selection and Leandro Barbosa. If they want to give up both Corey Maggette and No. 7 pick, why not trade Rockets? They can have battier.
Agreed. Maggette shot .384 from 3 land on the Clips. That is nearly as good as Barbosa (.389), who gets a lot cleaner loooks, and a lot better than Hill or Marion or Diaw. I don't see why he would bog down the offense at all. From the Clips perspective it makes sense if they are going to lose Maggette for nothing. Barbosa + #15 is well worth #7 pick. Barbosa is only 25 and might do better outside the confines of an offense where he has to think much. And Phx could pick up Augustine, Bayless (longshot), Alexander, Gordon, Love, Brooks Lopez--all who won't be available at #15. Could address Nash's replacement/backup in the draft or sign a FA to back him up.
Barbosa and #15 pick would be far more worth to the Clips than Battier. Battier is not going to help a cruddy rebuilding team much.
The problem for the Clips is that they don't ahve that much leverage to get a "fair deal." Maggette can leave as a free agent, and they end up with nothing. I don't think this is that bad a deal, under the circumstances. The Suns would get the better end talent-wise, but they'll also have to pay more salary for Maggette and #7 (which I'm sure Sterling has no interest in doing).
Perhaps Bayless or Westbrook at that pick if the trade goes through. The # 7 isn't exactly a sweet spot, but the Clippers should see what other offers are out there. Perhaps involve Portland in a multiple team deal at # 13 which has plenty to work with and probably would like to move up.
Battier for Corey Maggette and No. 7 pick is my wishful thinking. However, I think Corey Maggette and No. 7 pick should be able to get an all star back. Check what Boston got with No 6 pick last year.
I agree but only thing is Mags has HUGE injury problems much liek TMAC. He will avg aroudn 55 games a year vs. Barbosa playing 80. Thats only thing that evens it out.
Maggette can get to the hole and to the line... something PHX has been lacking since they got rid of Joe Johnson. They need a better starter at the 2 guard then Raja Bell to spread the floor.
