Thomas learns breaks of game November 1, 2006 BY BRIAN HANLEY Staff Reporter MIAMI -- Bulls rookie Tyrus Thomas got his first official sniff of the NBA at the start of the Bulls' 108-66 season-opening victory over the Miami Heat on Tuesday night. He later left the game with 7:43 remaining after breaking his nose. ''I mean, that's a good story to tell; you can't forget that one: first game, first broken nose,'' an upbeat Thomas said, taped nose and all. ''Welcome to the life, young fella.'' Thomas, who wasn't sure who hit him (it was James Posey), did travel with the team to Orlando, where the Bulls play the Magic tonight (6, Comcast SportsNet, 105.9-FM). But he may head to Chicago before the game to be fitted for a protective mask. ''Whatever I've got to do to get back, that's no problem.'' Thomas finished his debut with four points (1-for-4 shooting), five rebounds and two blocks. His one hoop was a slam over Shaquille O'Neal. ''I didn't even know, I didn't pay any attention to it,'' he said of the jam. ''I'm not satisfied, but I thought I did fairly well staying active and executing on both ends of the floor, and being focused the entire time I was out there -- unlike the preseason, when I had spurts when I was focused and spurts when I wasn't.'' Guard Chris Duhon, who scored 20 points off the bench, also left the game early in the fourth quarter after he was kicked in his already- bruised right foot, which has been bothering him for two weeks. ''I don't plan on missing any games,'' Duhon said. ''It's just one of those things where it hurts real bad for a couple minutes. I kind of had a problem with it last year. I'm dealing more with the orthotics in my shoes. I'm probably going to put some padding in there.'' HE'S THE BOSS: Coach Pat Riley helped design the Heat's 10-karat championship rings, which were distributed in a pregame ceremony. ''The players had some input,'' Riley said. ''It's a big ring, but it's very elegant.'' Dwyane Wade had one request of Riley when it came to the rings. ''I told him to make sure there was a lot of bling, a lot of ice,'' Wade told the Miami Herald. WHO NEEDS TWO? Ben Wallace is listed as 6-9, but he told TNT on Tuesday that he's actually 6-7. bhanley@suntimes.com If ben is 6'7 and dominant. So can Chuck Hayes! GO CHUCK!
Isn't that basically common knowledge? They showed him standing next to Danny Ainge years ago and they were very similar in height. Not to mention the fact that most guys have an inch or two added on the official listing.
Hmm interesting...could be true. Barkley was only 6"4 1/2. Dream was only 6"10 (usually listed at 7"0)
i thought it was common knowledge that hakeem was 6' 10". zo's even a little bit shorter. i think tmac is 6' 9". and kg has got to be at least 7'. both players listed as shorter than they really are.
yeah because they didn't want to get moved up a position. anyway the 6'7" wallace is getting abused by the 6'11" dwight howard. he's beasting.
Actually Ben Wallace is 6'7''. Its just that I didnt believe it. I saw the guy (as well as some of the other Bulls) at Navy Pier not too long ago. He wasn't wearing his fro and he was obviously wearing shoes, but he overshadowed everyone. I knew for sure he wasnt 7'0 or even 6'11 but wow cant believe 6'7! Apparently Teyshaun Prince is taller than him
Height listings are kind of like johnson size, everyone adds an inch or two. They usually add ten pounds as well to the weight.
That was kinda suprising to me. I mean, a 6'7" player with such rebounding, shot blocking, and defense against other centers, that's crazy.
No just as many players are TALLER than listed as just as many are shorter. MOST are lighter than listed. BTW, I saw Wallace's draft measurement once and he was actually 6-7 3/4 barefoot and 6-9 1/4 in shoes, so he's trying to seem shorter than he is by saying he's 6-7.
I really doubt that. There are maybe a handful of guys like KG who are listed as shorter, but just about every guard in the league is listed as taller than they really are.
There's a whole bunch that are listed shorter and a whole bunch listed taller and a whole bunch listed right. Just on the Rockets Snyder is listed at 6-6 and he measured I believe at about 6-7 1/2 most teams have 1 or 2 players listed shorter. Again just on the Rockets, T-Mac is said to be 6-10 barefoot by himself and KG but 6-9 1/2 barefoot by Doc Rivers he's listed at 6-8. Swift was listed at 6-9 and his draft measurement was 6-10 1/2 Yao was originally listed 7-5 and his measurment has been either 7-6 with shoes or 7-7 with shoes Spanoulis is listed 6-4 and he's 6-4 even barefoot according to his last year's Eruope and Wbc measurement. Then you have Novak/Hayes Hayes is at 6-6 3/4 in shoes draft listing and he's listed at 6-6 Novak is at 6-9 1/2 in shoes draft listing and he's listed at 6-10. In other words the idea that every player is listed 2 inches taller than they are is absurd and has been debunked numerous times. The FACT is the heights and weights in general are complete BS but any thoughts on some random adding 2 inches and 10 pounds to every player universally it totally off.
here is a pic of the ex-fab 4 sheed looks huge and rip looks taller than ben... might be perspective problem but that shouldn't make a big difference
