http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/daily/detail/0,1136,36000000000168580,00.html Miami needs a few big men - According to the Sun-Sentinel, Miami Herald: Miami coach Pat Riley decided to squash one trade rumor while adding fuel to the fire of another. Contrary to speculation, Riley said the Heat hasn’t had conversations with Chicago about disgruntled center Brad Miller, whom the Heat brought into Miami this summer as a free agent prospect. Riley said he's interested in upgrading the Heat at the center position but seems to favor Hakeem Olajuwon over a younger player like Miller, who has fallen out of favor in Chicago. Riley is watching the Olajuwon saga in Houston closely and believes if Olajuwon were given more touches in the Rockets’ offense he’d be more effective. “Don’t ever discount the great ones,” Riley said. “He’s an NBA player; he’s a warrior. I coached Kareem (Adbul-Jabbar) when he was 39 and we won championships.” Gotta give it to him. He is saying exactly what needs to be said to make Dream want to play for him. I think Riley is right, but for some reason, the Rockets can't accomadate just a little change like this. I think Rudy is committed to bringing the youth along at all costs, I personally think the YOUTH could use a little tempering. In related news, at: http://www.vancouversun.com/grizzlies/stories/010130/5088910.html You can add owner Michael Heisley's name to the growing list of those thinking the Vancouver Grizzlies need to make a trade to change the struggling team's mix. Saying he was extremely disappointed with the team's disastrous three-game road trip to Texas last week, Heisley indicated Monday he agrees with the popular sentiment that the team's chemistry just isn't right. "I think the core group of players is good enough to win," Heisley said before Monday's game against New Jersey Nets. " Do I think the core group of players has the chemistry to play together to win? I think you have to say evidently not. I think that is something that would say that maybe a trade would do some good." But Heisley said he doesn't want the team making a trade just for the sake of making a trade. "What good is it going to do me to make a trade for the sake of making a trade," Heisley asked. "I don't think that's going to get me anywhere. If I went out and traded Shareef (Abdur-Rahim) or (Mike) Bibby and all I got back was Joe Schmoe I think the fans would be even more disappointed in me. So I'm in a pretty tough spot right now and we're going to the best job we can do. . .we will make a trade if it's a good trade. That doesn't mean we have to make a killing on the trade, but we have to get value for value. I'm not giving away our star players just to make a trade." Most NBA trades traditionally take place after the All-Star break and Heisley indicated he would be surprised if the Grizzlies didn't pull off some kind of deal before the Feb. 22 deadline. "I think it would be reasonable to say that we would hope that we will do something during that February time frame but I'm getting out of my area of expertise." Heisley said he spoke recently to head coach Sidney Lowe, who has been growing increasingly frustrated by management's inactivity on the trade front. "As far as I'm concerned I think Sidney is doing everything he can do," said Heisley. ---- 3-way deal brewing? maybe, maybe no ------------------ "Dream another dream, this dream is over... Again, everybody wants dump all the blame on Rudy and it isn't all his fault. A good part of the blame lies in Dream. He wants to be a main focal point of the offense, but he can't be because he isn't consistent enough at this point. I know people will say that he has shot 50% from the field, but a lot of big men shoot 50% from the field, they aren't the focal point. At Dream's age, and with his health problems, he can't be the main focus. Dream has to be a defensive stopper, rebounder, and score off garbage points. It's Dream that doesn't realize that, not Rudy. ------------------ No sleep and no trade info make RocksMillenium something, something!
Hakeem has NEVER said he wants to be the focal point again...NEVER !!!! All he has said is "don't ignore the post" It gets me pissed to have people putting words in Dreams mouth, he would be happy if he was just included as part of the offense...
