Dolphins free-agent backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels agreed to terms with the Houston Texans Saturday on a four-year deal worth $7 million, including a $2 million signing bonus, according to a source.

Rosenfels, 28, originally drafted by the Redskins in 2001, has been primarily a backup for the Dolphins since 2002. He made his first start in the 2004 season finale against the Ravens. Last season, he was beat out for the starting job by Gus Frerotte, however, an injured finger sustained by Frerotte gave Rosenfels his second career start against the Browns on Nov. 20.

Rosenfels struggled, going just 5 of 10 for 14 yards before being replaced by Frerotte in the 22-0 loss to the Browns. However, Rosenfels redeemed himself when he relieved a woozy Frerotte at the end of the third quarter of Game 12 with the Dolphins trailing the Bills 23-3.

Rosenfels completed 22 of 37 for 272 yards and two touchdowns to direct the Dolphins to a 24-23 victory, the greatest fourth-quarter comeback in franchise history.

I'd never heard of him before, but that is one impressive comeback performance. Sounds like a very good pickup for a backup QB.

Anybody who thinks the Texans are drafting Vince Young now is nuts. Carr just got a big deal and they just gave Rosenfels 7mil. The options are either Bush or trade the pick. I would say its an 80% chance we draft Reggie

i think you're right. i think they will keep carr and not draft young.

but why couldn't they trade Carr if they wanted to?

Rosenfels is trash and we just gave a reported $13 million dollar signing bonus to a DE who's never had more than 5 sacks in a season. Remind me again why Casserly wasn't fired along with Dom.

I guess Kubiak thinks he can turn Carr into Jake Plummer #2. Thats nothing to write home about but its better than what he has done his first 4 seasons.

i hear you. but i read your post to indicate it's some impossibility now that this has happened to take Young. if Carr could be moved, I don't know why that would be so.

maybe this is on me...but i have no idea who this guy is we just paid $7 million to. i'm assuming this guy is 3rd string....behind Ragone??

who's the DE the texans signed?

EDIT: i just read about the DE. Casserly knows better than me (right?), but it seems like we've been bamboozled again.

Well Ragone is an RFA, so there's no guarantee he'll be back, but I can't see us giving a 3rd string QB a $2 million dollar signing bonus. I've seen him play a few times, and he has looked awful, I'd rather let Ragone play.

    1. if ragone gets away and we get nothing for him...no value on the field and no trade value...what a freaking wasted pick.

    2. i'd like to see ragone play at this point.

If we lose Ragone, we'll get a 3rd round pick

I think the pick will be traded. Kubiak comes form the Broncos system, and I believe that D'Brikashaw will be our pick somehow.

I hope he works out in a pinch. Apparently, Kubiak isn't expecting to play him.

For the 5,000,000th time, Carr is/was getting that deal regardless of whether we planned to draft Vince. It would be even more difficult to trade him if we had franchised him, and clearly he's too much of an asset to simply not extend. The Carr extension has absolutely zero correlationto their long-term plans at quarterback. It's just the best business choice for them to make in terms of getting the most assets.

Rosenfels is also completely irrelevant in terms of Vince Young. I don't care what John McClain says - the chances of David Carr and Vince Young being on the same team next year are almost nonexistent. Thus, if we draft Vince... Rosenfels is still needed as a backup quarterback.

I'm not saying we're going to draft Vince. But you guys are making way, way too much out of these moves. The Carr extension was happening regardless... the Rosenfels signing was happening regardless. That's a reflection on the backup QB situation, not the starting QB situation.

I love how people even think we are considering this. Its laughable. The guy is not even a lock for the top five and we are going to pick him first? Haha. Over a guy regarded as one of the best PROSPECTS ever. No Way. Get over it , Vince will not be drafted by the texans

Thank god we won't be drafting Vince. I like Vince but I don't think he will be a good NFL QB. He will be decent like Mike Vick. Reggie Bush will be great.

Sage Rosenfels is a backup quarterback. Career backup. David Carr and Vince Young are/will be starting quarterbacks. We might not draft Vince Young; however, signing Rosenfels has absolutely, positively nothing in the entire world to do with that decision.
