See Interesting paragraphs: One player that could fit the club's need for backcourt depth is Houston guard Bryce Drew, who is not a free agent. Drew apparently does not fit into the Rockets' plans, and Houston is working with him on a trade. The 6-foot-3 guard was the 16th player selected in the 1998 NBA draft out of Valparaiso and could fit a role similar to the one Steve Nash did when he was with the Suns -- a combination guard who can play alongside Kidd or Hardaway. Drew played in 72 games last season, averaging 5.8 points and 2.3 assists while shooting 36 percent from three-point range. "We're talking with Houston about that," said Bartlestein, who also is Drew's agent. "It's something I'll talk to Bryan (Colangelo) about and get his thoughts on it." The club also must put together a roster for the rookie/free agent camp.
Very interesting- there are suitors for Drew it seems. I know we were interested in Rodney Rogers a year ago, and I heard him mentioned in some trade offers earlier this summer. Which makes me ponder if Phoenix would take Drew+ KT for Rodney Rogers?? Rogers makes a very low salary, so I think the salaries are close. If you're the Rockets, do you do this (I certainly would) and do you think the Suns might go for this? Just something totally hypothetical I thought I might throw out there. ------------------ Member of the pro-Collier/Langhi movement. IN RUDY WE TRUST!!
Shawn Marion dancing like a sugar plum in my head. The only Suns free agent in 01 is Randy Livingston I wonder if we can steal Googs for something including KT, Drew and the exception? Or Rogers would be nice too (for KT/Drew)? Perhaps the exception can come into play? ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. Nike- we don't want Googs. From what I've heard that knee injury was pretty serious, and it may be March of this coming season before he comes back to play. Also, yeah I had those same visions of Marion, but we have to get realistic. Marion I'm sure is out of our range. Rogers isn't, and I think he would fit very well. If we brought him off the bench, imagine the firepower of Mobes and Rodney coming off of that bench. ------------------ Member of the pro-Collier/Langhi movement. IN RUDY WE TRUST!!
I'm afraid you guys are way too optimistic about Drew's value. He's far closer to Randy Livingston than Shawn Marion and Rodney Rogers. ------------------
No kidding if we could pick up Marion in some sort of deal with them I'm not sure I would be able to sleep at night! Francis, Cat, Shandon, Marion, all running together. WOW! Not bloody likely though. ------------------
Kenny Thomas has good value though grummett, that's why packaging him and Drew can get you something. Also, don't underestimate Bryce Drew. I know we like to make fun of him, but when he started he averaged 15 points/6 assists. Pretty good numbers. He's worth more than Livingston, etc. ------------------ Member of the pro-Collier/Langhi movement. IN RUDY WE TRUST!!
I never said it would happen . I'd be happy to get a future pick in return for Drew. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
What round? 2nd OK with you? Mango ------------------ Eat more spinach! Live long and prosper! Donate blood! Smeg will be assimilated. Now...back to updating The Serious Police Files.
I love the idea of sending Drew to the Suns, but what can we get in return of value Googs- even after an ACL reconstruction you'd have to think he is untouchable Marion- too much potential to see them letting him go Rogers- who knows if they would be willing to letting him go, he gave them such a boost last year. Robinson- doubt they would let him go after his best year for along time With Chapman on his last legs, maybe they might be interested in Walt aswell, it would have to be one of those above 4 for me to give away KT. oops first round, since they're already established playoff team. If the Detroit pick were to end next year, we could end up with #5 (Detroit), #11 (us), and #16, plus a pick via Orlando (presumably from Phoenix). In the 20s. That'd be pretty cool Oh yeah, we forgot the Suns also have Tsakalidis. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Mango, was that sarcasm in that post????? Me thinks you have lost the plot and are coming over to side of good, humour, wit and sarcasm. Smeg ------------------ Stuff BBS, the Rockets and you guys It's all Clippers these days, come join the bandwagon and visit http://www.ClippersCity.net
Smeg-Mango wasn't using sarcasm. We had discussed Drew's value pick term wise, and come to the conclusion that in this year's draft, Drew was worth an early 2nd rounder. You have not succeeded in corrupting Mango yet. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
I am not greedy about trading Drew. Actually, if the Suns could come up with another team's high second next year that would be a start. If the Mavs deal of this past week didn't specify what team's 2nd round pick to settle, take a late second from Phoenix to close that out. So a high second and a late second would be enough for me. It would be great to have 4 1st round draft picks in 2001, but they would be holding lots of cap space when that would be the Rocket's time to get Mr X. 2nd round picks have a lower salary and if 2001 is that deep, an early 2nd should still be a solid player. I wouldn't deal KT for Rodney Rogers. I'd take Corie Blount for Drew, if Phoenix would do it. ------------------ Tell me I sold out, go ahead
Freak-you wouldn't deal KT for Rogers? whoa. If we could get Rogers for Kenny Thomas I'd be thrilled. Rogers just turned 29, solidly built, can drain the trey, and can spot at the 4. He also can play off the bench well. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
I agree with Nikestrad. I would love Rogers for Kt deal. What kind of deal do you think we can package to get marion? ------------------ "I talked about what degenerates they [Mets fans] were, and they proved me right. So what is a REASONABLE expectation in trade for Drew? Some type of player movement would also be needed to work the salary cap. Mango ------------------ Eat more spinach! Live long and prosper! Donate blood! Smeg will be assimilated. Now...back to updating The Serious Police Files.
