After 21 years broadcasting together, Pat Sumerall and John Madden are breaking up. Sumerall, who's contract is up after this year's Superbowl, has chosen to become a "free agent", in his own words. Reasoning for this move have not been cited, however Sumerall does maintain that this was his decision alone, and he is looking forward to other opportunities.
Summeral is way past his prime. I used to love the combo of he and Brookshire. It's time for Pat to relax and enjoy what retirement has to offer. os
I'll miss this combo, even though Madden tends to over do analysis sometimes. Summerall said he wouldn't mind covering tennis or golf or just staying in football at a different position. I don't think he is calling it quits just yet though.
Sorry Jag, Rocketman95 beat you to the punch. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27935
My apologies...scanned the headlines, didn't see one about Sumerall/Madden....R-Man's code got me....
THIS SUCKS. I have a friend who has already demanded that Summerall preside over his funeral, and my friend is 21.
Sorry, I had to mention this, and didn't want to start another thread... Did anybody else besides me laugh when John Madden said "Kurt Warner has two batted balls"??
Whatever you think of Summerall (and Madden), yesterday's game sure was a great one to have as the last NFL game you announce.
I heard on the Southwest Sports Report a couple of nights ago that Summerall is thinking of joining the dark side exclusively....yes, the Dallas Cowboys as an announcer.
