I've been waiting for this concert to come to Houston since February. I bought the tickets in late March (I think, it was so long ago!). But anywhoo, its finally here.

    The lineup is:

    Metallica
    Linkin Park
    Limp Bizkit
    Deftones
    Mudvayne

    Its gonna be freakin awesome.

    Anyone else going?

    Where are your seats?

Can only afford one show a month...and there is a much better one coming to the Woodlands on the 16th.

    Iron Maiden
    Dio
    Motorhead

Besides...Metallica has finally disappointed me for the last time.
St Anger was supposed to be more like their old style music...and it isnt..it sucks.

I will never again pay to see or listen to Metallica..they are dead to me.

As METALLICA sells out with the Summer Sanitarium Tour with LIMP BIZKIT, LINKIN PARK, the DEFTONES and MUDVAYNE, there was word on the street that PHIL ANSELMO (SUPERJOINT RITUAL, DOWN, PANTERA) had challenged the Bay Area bashers to a road duel, head to head on any stage. During a recent interview with BW&BK, Phil commented, We sure as f**k did and that was due to a conversation James Hetfield and I had years ago when I was talking to him about their new album. I think that was when Load was out, and it kind of shocked everybody; everybody was freaked out. What they do is what they do, that's fine, but I'll never forget James (Hetfield) and Lars (Ulrich) both saying that being in heavy metal we should all stick together. From what I've seen, touring with bands like Hole, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park and bands like that, that's not doing anything for heavy metal. Heavy metal lies in the underground and if they're worried about... why in the hell would Metallica be worried about ticket sales? Bring out some f**kin' good bands. I know they're threatened by us easily 'cause I will go out and kill every night. I just feel that with the character that we bring, the songs that we bring... 30 - 45 minutes to play beforehand. That's dangerous to put Superjoint Ritual on stage for 30 minutes; we're going to f**kin' kick your ass. We're going to kill you. We don't play for a long time live anyway. I think that any band will get boring after over an hour or something like that. We play like right at about an hour or so and f**kin' get the f**k, you know? It's the key to what I've always believed in, if you see what you see then and there you'll definitely want to come back and see the band when they come through again. It leaves a lot to be seen, more to be seen. As for his opinion of St. Anger? "Honestly I haven't heard the record. I've seen the live video. Really, no comment." BW&BK also spoke with Lars Ulrich recently. His response, Is he that desperate to tour? I love all these challenges. 'The ol' step it up...' I don't know if Superjoint Ritual needs to play in front of more people. That's fine, maybe we'll take them out one day. We are certainly all big fans of his other band Down. I'm 39 years old. I don't have those kindergarten grudges anymore. If Pepper Keenan can hang with the guy and make records with him, he can't be all bad. Although he has a tendency to talk a lot of horse**** most of the time." Interviews with Phil Anselmo and Lars Ulrich will be featured in Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles Issue #72, due out in late July.

Yea, I agree, St. Anger sucks. But the old stuff is still the worth going to see. I'm really excited about all the other bands that are also on tour.

And as for being on the field is still a seat, even if you aren't sitting on it.

My ticket is for the chairs, but I won't be sitting.

Knowing what I know about Pantera, it doesn't surprise me that a band would not want to tour with them.

Be sure and wear an "I LOVE NAPSTER" Tshirt when you go, and if you get close enough to the stage, spit on Lars for me!:D

    dude, obviously you don't understand...

seats do not necessarily entail "CHAIRS"..

seats merely refers to where you will be during the concert.

Its just the type of music you don't like.

I happen to like every band that is there. My favorite, by far, is linkin park, then limp bizkit. I have hard that all the deftones songs sound the same live... but who cares.. they can still jam.

The Deftones were actually pretty good when they opened for Pantera and Black Sabbath. Keep in mind this was Pre-White Pony, so perhaps their newer music doesn't translate well to the concert scene. I agree on the other bands though...Mudvayne released probably the biggest CD that influenced myself into burning music off the net...quite possibly the worst album ever...

I'd take the Warped tour over Lolla and Sanitarium...now that's an annoying scene...spiked collars, wifebeaters, and trucker hats galore...

    Phil Anselmo is awesome.

I'm going to the show as well, and I'm excited.

I liked St Anger, though it's not as good as their earlier work, and I liked load/reload. I went to the dallas show a few years back when James couldn't play and because of school I couldn't go to the makeup performance.

So when I heard my favorite band was coming to my hometown this summer, I jumped at the opportunity to really see them live.

I also like Linkin Park and limp bizkit is alright, but this show is about seeing my all time favorite band live with them all around 40 or so, I didn't know if I would get that chance again.

Metallica in no way shape or form is dead to me. They are alive and kicking, and I for one am happy about it.

    Different strokes...;)

I see the difference in the albume you like versus the ones I dont.

I liked everything they put out until the Black album..it was ok..but I felt a drop-off from the early ones.

I havent liked any of their stuff since. and add in their behavior towards their fans...and their insistence to tour with nu-metal acts instead of "true" heavy metal acts...

They are sell-outs and I will no longer support them..I have seen them 4 times over the years...so, it's not like I have never seen the old stuff performed before.

I wasn't trying to come off so harsh, if I did I apologize. Music to me is all about personal taste anyway so debates about groups people like or don't like seem stupid in my opinion. I don't like St Anger as much as Master, Ride the Lightning, kill them all, justice or the black album, but after a full listen through I liked all but 3 or 4 of the songs.

But as I said earlier music is one of those things strictly in the eye of the beholder and thus really pointless to argue over if you ask me.

    A little off topic but...

I don't mind debating about music. In fact I would actually do it all day long if I could. As long as everyone understands that it's all about OPINION and not fact, it's actually pretty fun.

I try to keep an open mind about all kinds of music even if a certain type isn't my cup of tea. I can at least respect it if the people who play it are actually good at what they do, whether I like what they do or not.

Sorry if my original post in this thread came off as pretentious, I was just kidding around.

    :end of rant:

no, you didnt come off harsh..If anyone did, it was me. :)
I used to think they were going to be the saving grace of heavy metal by changing what mainstream music was...but unfortunately it wasnt the mainstream that changed, it was the band. I felt they had let me down.

I get a little mad about them..and have a tendencey to take any opportunity to slam them these days.

You are right about the personal taste thing...and I dont argue about why you like what you like..or try to shove my opinion down your throat...I was really just trying to explain why I dont like them much anymore. Nothing wrong with a good discussion about the pros and cons of bands...as long as everyone remembers that just because you* dont like a band, it doesnt necessarily mean they suck.

*= when I say "you"..I dont specifically mean you..DVauthrin...but people in general.

anyway...no feelings hurt over here, hopefully none were hurt on your side.
