Ok to all the mcgrady optimists like myself. If he comes back, plays well in the new offense and averages lets say 26pts and 5 assists and the team is anywhere from 8 to 15 games above .500, do we resign him? Could we get him to stay for cheap? to stay at all? Second but probably more important who do we sign? IM vouching for Amare, great pf, is getting a better mid range shot by the game too. PLEASE this is my first thread don't kill me.
No, they won't resign McGrady. He'll likely be traded if Morey wants to get maximum value for his expiring contract. If McGrady's contract expires, it only gives us $5 to $10 million of cap space which is not enough to sign a superstar unless they're willing to take a pay cut (which I don't see why they would). If we want a superstar for his contract, it will have to be through a trade. Amar'e is a pipe-dream. He has a player option for 2010-2011 with the Suns anyway, one which I imagine he'll take in this economy.
Who really can we sign with no cap room. That is why ariza was a horrible signing cause he killed it. If I was amare why would I come to Houston. If I was any free agent why would I come here? With this Tmac fiasco every FA will wonder how long before they turn on me.
Well he never stated how good his field goal percentage had to be. So 30 percent from the field averaging 26PPG sounds about right.
Trade McGrady for a young guy and 1st rd pick+Fillars then use what money we have left over to sign a nice player who isn't going to get top money. TMAC has burned himself so much that the Rox will say goodbye the moment the season is over, if not sooner...rather get something instead of nothing.
Considering how well the Hawks are playing I can't imagine they'd be willing to trade Joe Johnson to us. And considering how little we could offer him in free agency, I can't imagine we could sign him. Pipe dream.
I think even the McGrady nut-huggers are going to admit that he probably isn't coming back next season. It's certain now that there is bad blood between him and the organization. McGrady is unable to see how he caused all of this so I don't see any way the two sides reconcile for the long term (not that I want them to). Morey is going to ship him out because as others have stated, if we let him walk next summer we have almost no room to sign free agents. Acquiring an impact player through free agency is out of the question and we don't have enough other pieces to trade and get something good in return without gutting the team. Of course, I am assuming (based on what Morey has repeated since the summer) that the Rockets feel they must have an All Star quality wing player on the squad. It's entirely possible that they keep what they have, sign a decent free agent in the summer and go to war next year with the current lineup + Yao + plus whatever they can pick up in the summer. I doubt that will happen but I guarantee you it will before McGrady is asked to come back for another contract.
Hey this was simply a what if scenario. Out of opinion do you wnat him to bomb? ( That's whats coming out of the mouths of most clutch members as most want his head on a silver platter) If he does we cant trade him, we can only wait, if our team stays around the .500 win percentage thanm that may discourage free agents. Guys wanna win like Parker, Powe and Sheed who signed to their various teams, Parker could've recieved more money from the raptors and sheed could've gotten more money various places as well, im concluding that they signed to winning teams and thats' that. So we need Tracy, and I do believe he might stay, where could he go? Tracy will not go to a bad team as we know hes a competitor and wants a ring. Knicks wont get him thats for sure (they have nothing beneficial to our team). If we let him walk off who could we sign? Maybe we could trade him for Ray Allen, a very good shooter and a decent ball handler ( better then battier and Ariza). But that trade is only possible if Tracy plats well
Thats a good point, the Rockets are also relentless when it comes to trades, like stevey Franchise who got traded twice by us.
If T-Mac wanted to sign with a team in contention for a championship. Houston would certainly not be on the top of his list. The Yao/Mcgrady saga has been failing for 5+ seasons, I'd rather see Mcgrady walk away than spend more money on this broken Tandem of Yao and T-mac.
Are you implying that every FA is ignorant and is unable to see that this fiasco as you called it is largely self inflicted, mainly do to the fact that he prefers to talk like a girl instead of play like a man.....
uhhh i think we STOLE ARIZA.. for the numbers he is putting up, hes worth way more than his contract.. seriously people you got to be kidding me. just like aaron brooks. go do the research and learn something cause he should have a bigger contract then what he is gettin paid ( for the numbers he is putting up. MOREY IS A SMART MAN
I have a question regarding 2010... If the Rockets trade McGrady this offseason for a longer term contract that puts them back over the cap for next season, how does that affect resigning of our own free agents (Scola)... Does it limit them to using the MLE? Do Bird rights apply?
and i bet our team shooting percentage drops as well as overall team efficiency. and then tmac decides he is not ready to play again.
