Well, another Summer movie season bites the dust. I actually saw 12 movies this summer, a lot more than I usually see. MI:3 - Better than the second, but not as good as the first. I liked the simplified plot: B+ Da Vinci Code - I should REALLY stop expecting the movie to be as good as the book: C- X-Men: The Last Stand - C'mon, what is that Chinese dude going to do with those pansy ass porcupine spikes?: A- The Break Up - Pretty decent for a chick flick: B Cars - I wasn't expecting much, but I should really know better when Pixar is involved: A Nacho Libre - I don't think I've ever been as disappointed in a movie: D Click - Another pleasant suprise: A Superman Returns - Eh...I was always more of a Batman kind of guy: C Pirates of the Caribbean - Johnny Depp is quickly rising up my list of favorite actors: A+ Clerks II - Haven't laughed as hard in a theater in years: A Lady in the Water - I thought it was better than most people - B Miami Vice - Once again, how do you not put a boat chase scene in this movie?: B- Snakes on a Plane - FINALLY saw this tonight...my only regret was that I didn't see it on opening weekend: A+ As for the movies coming up, I'm really looking forward to The Prestige, The Departed, The Black Dahlia, Saw III, and of course, Jackass Number 2.....
I'm desperately waiting for The Fountain. I absolutely love Aronofsky's work. Plus, Daniel Craig in James Bond seems intriguing. And last but not least, Rocco Does Jenna 93.
MI3: not bad, pretty slow beginning, but picked up later on, wish there wouldve been more action X-Men: The Last Stand - I thought it was great, get over it, its not going to follow EVERYTHING like the comics, really entertainning, and heres to a 4th one Over the Hedge - Could've been better, was bored throughout the movie The Break Up - was better than I thought it would be, Vince Vaughn is still a genius Nacho Libre - my feeling was this, after the movie was done, i was dissappointed, then a few days later, im quoting the movie and thinks its a great flick, the same way I felt with Napoleon Dynamite Click - Another great movie by Adam Sandler, which I think im one of the very few that repects his talents Superman Returns - not bad, but I was more "wow" with Batman Begins last year, still a good movie though, and note to Kal Penn, SAY SOMETHING!!!! The Devil Wears Prada - damn Merryl Streep played a hardcore b**** in the movies, and did it VERY well.... Clerks II - Being the Kevin Smith fan, you know I would love this movie before the trailers even started Taladega Nights - was really surprised, not into NASCAR, but Farrell made this movie entertaning Pulse - not bad of a movie, but damn, can people really that stupid in movies???? Step Up - yea, i was dragged to this ****, but was entertainning, typical boy-girl movie Crossover - expected more, not much bball action, predictable/stereotypical Didn't get around to watch, but wanted to: The Da Vinci Code, Poseiden, Cars, Pirates 2 (one of the few that DIDNT watch it), My Super Ex GF, Lady in the Water, Tokyo Drift, Lake House, Beerfest, Miami Vice, WTC, Accepted, and Invincible Looking foward in the fall: Gridiron Gang, DOA (2 laugh my ass off), the Protector, The Last Kiss, Jackass 2, Fearless, School for Scoundrels, Employee of the Month, The Marine, The Prestige, and Saw 3
For me: MI3: Liked it more than I expected, good summer action flick. Fell apart at the end, though. (B+) X3: The weakest of the trilogy. Not a bad movie, but it was very 'crowded', as though trying to just pack too much into one movie. We all want to see X-Men kick ass, but we don't want a nonsense fanboy-gasm either. (C+) Cars: Like A-Train, I didn't have as high expectations as normal for some reason, but should have known better. Very entertaining. Not Pixar's best, but even their 'just good' movies are so much better than everything else. (B+) Clerks 2: Freakin' great. Very funny, lived up to my expectations. Haven't enjoyed a Smith film this much in a long, long time. (A) Superman Returns: Enjoyed the classic feel, along with the new kinks. Too slow in it's pacing, but I hope now that the setup is out of the way any sequels kick it up a notch. (B-) Nacho Libre: Good laughs, but a bit of a letdown. I was expecting more with the tools there were to work with. Some of the other Luchadores were awesome; needed more. (C) Over The Hedge: Decent, a little above average in terms of your animated movies, but nothing outstanding. (B-) Talledega Nights: Good stuff, not as good as Anchorman or Old School, two of my Ferrell favorites, but a good time. (B) Accepted: I was expecting very little, and came away very surprised. Starts off kind of slow but picks up and has some funny stuff. Screw the reviews, it's a good comedy. (B-) Snakes On A Plane: What I expected; a movie that celebrates the fact it was pretty bad. Enjoyable, but I wish I had seen it with a better audience. (B of course) Still need to see Pirates (I know, I know), Little Miss Sunshine, Idiocracy, Miami Vice, Click, Lady In The Water, Da Vinci Code.
Clerks II was the best movie of the summer. The only movies I'm really looking foward to are: The movie that is coming out by the director of Eternal Sunshine called The Science of Sleep Trailer and... jackass 2.
Wrong. Little Miss Sunshine was *the* best movie of the summer. Hands down. Direction, acting, sheer comic hilarity, storyline ... this movie was nearly flawless. Others: Superman Returns: C+. How underwhelming. Click: A. Adam Sandler at his best. MI:3: B+. Good action, not quite mindblowing, but worth its weight in paper.
Best action movie for me was MI3. Tom Cruise can do no wrong. Best hilarity in a movie was Little Miss Sunshine. I like movies with clever dialogue. Biggest dissapointment was Lady in the Water. I'm a big fan of M. Night's movies and I even liked The Village. This movie was terrible. The last 30 pages of the Da Vinci Code book should have warned me the movie would suck.
Best movie I saw all summer was Prarie Home Companion. Really looking forward to seeing Hollywoodland. I love Film Noir.
if you guys are looking for a dumb action movie, don't forget to watch "crank". that is one highly entertaining movie.
I don't know why, but this trailer makes me laugh: http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/letsgotoprison/ There's something funny about prison rape jokes, but I just can't put my finger on it.
The Departed looks like it will be good. Hell, with Scorsese directing, and a cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Martin Sheen, Mark Wahlberg, and Alec Baldwin it better be.
