ok, so i'm 17 and want a job for the summer in the sugar land/southwest houston area...i've applied to AMC Thetres, Banana Republic, Hollywood Video, and Blockbuster Video...the problem is i don't have any work experience...anyone have any suggestions of where else i can work for higher than minimum wage?...anyone here hiring??
don't worry about experience...if a place is looking to hire 17 year old guys for the summer, they know in advance that most won't have any significant experience...they're mostly concerned with how quickly you pick up on their systems and how reliable you are. Good luck!!!
is there anything i should do to get one of the jobs i applied for...what will make them wanna pick pick me instead of someone else...do i bug them and call every other day??...i heard that works...haha
stop in and see the manager after you submit the application...tell him/her you just wanted to check in...would really like the job, etc.
You could prob slip the manager some $$$ and you could increase your chances that way. LOL just kidding
Hey sland, u know anything bout computers? I work here at EV1 for the past few years and its not too bad job. Its my first job also. I have been working here since I was 17. They start off at $7.50 a hour and get a raise after a few months and an evaluation. If you need any reference, just put me down. Just give me an email and Ill give you more info on the job.
if you are good with kids, consider a summer camp or a daycare program. its decent cash, you meet good people, get a tan, and its rewarding.
if all else fails, try a phone survey/telemarketing place. i worked at a survey place and essentially, if you can read this paragraph they give you without butchering it too bad, you've got the job. i got $7 an hour. apparently you can get raises after a while but i worked there a solid 6 weeks/3 days a week so i don't think i was exactly up for a raise. and they called me four straight times in one stretch to say they didnt need me that day which was sweet. i didn't need money, my dad just wanted me to actually have a job for once, so missing days was perfectly ok for me. oh and its the most boring job you could ever do so bring stuff to read or have a friend there. its surprisingly easy to tune out the phone rings after a while so your job doesn't get in the way of talking/reading.
