I'm trying to get back from work to pick up my kids from their daycare when I hit this logjam. I'm not pleased. Then WSB comes on and indicates a man is on an overpass and because of this idiot, all of I-75 is gridlocked. Neal Boortz said on his show while all of this was going on simply "Quit sitting there on the edge, **** or get off the pot!" The cops should have gotten one of their snipers to knock him down, clean up the mess and resume traffic. This is not the first time it has happened here, either , but it is the first time I've seen I-75 turned into a parking lot like this.

-75 standoff ends as man falls from bridge

A man threatening to jump from the Windy Hill overpass over I-75 in Cobb County has fallen onto the roadway.

Police were struggling with the man as he fell.

The man survived the fall with injuries, according to televised reports.

All lanes of I-75 in Cobb County were shut down just before noon Thursday because the man was threatening to jump from the bridge. DOT said all lanes reopened at 1:42 p.m.

The call came into Cobb police about 11 a.m. A police negotiating team tried to get the man down safely.

"We had to close both sides because he keeps walking back and forth," said Cobb police spokesman Brody Staud.

Staud said police had shut down the southbound lanes at Windy Hill and the northbound lanes at I-285. Southbound traffic had backed up to the south Marietta loop by 11:30 a.m.

By 12:30 traffic was estimated to be backed up more than five miles in each direction from Windy Hill.

Alternate routes, including Cobb Parkway and Powers Ferry Road, were also jammed.

Cobb emergency crews were also dealing with an apartment fire at a complex on Windy Hill Road.

The fire broke out around noon at the Plantation Lake apartments in the 2400 block of Windy Hill, said Cobb fire Lt. Scott Allison.

Allison said there were initial reports that two people had been hurt, but he had not received confirmation of the injuries.

He did not know how the traffic jam affected the ability of firefighters to reach the complex, which is between I-75 and Cobb Parkway.

More details as they become available.link

Might as well go out with a bang I guess, in the eyes of everyone else. Too bad he didn't succeed.

Sorry you got caught in this mess.

Gone..... The thing that bothers me is that sonuvabitch nearly dragged a couple of cops trying to save his lousy ass. He survived.

That's going to leave a mark! He only fell 30 feet.

What happened to the cop in the cowboy hat? You see him falling...fall...and then in the last photo, he's gone! You see his little red bag, but no cowboy cop. Just another guy reaching down to pick up the bag....

He probably was pulling and when the guy fell it forced him to go back and down.

The Woman may need to work on her technique. The african american came out of nowhere, just like Carl Lewis, for support.

I remember a guy jumped off an overpass on I-35 last year - but he didn't wait around for the cops to talk him off the bridge - he jumped and had a car finish him off. :(

What a r****d ass way to try to commit suicide. I don't understand why the cops just dont set up some sort of thing underneath the bridge where he cant jump anywhere but on the contraption that will break his fall before he hits the ground. I guess that is a little unrealistic, but I don't understand why they should shut down traffic in a major city and try to talk the guy down. Just push him off. :)
