I am looking to purchase a personal media player alas the iPod/Zune/Archos and the plethora of other brands out there. I am looking for something with at least 20GB storage capacity, capable of playing music, video and displaying pictures. I would prefer something sub-$150, so if anyone came across a good deal on anything that fits the bill, please pass it on, I am getting it as a birthday gift. Oh, and just for the sake of clarity, sub-$150 is what I am looking for, anything more than that is pretty much out of the question. TIA...
I have an Archos and it doesn't make me use itunes, nor Windows media player. The Archos is drag and drop friendly. No time wasted with Apple's horrific itunes, nor Microsoft's almost equally horrific Window Media Player.
I too am crazy about the Archos. Best screen out there too. And its the swiss army knife of media players. But its bigger than the others you mention. http://dealnews.com/Refurbished-Arc...edia-Player-for-110-free-shipping/215278.html Add this to your RSS feed and keep an eye out http://dealnews.com/rss/455
A few months ago alot of online stores were getting rid of the first generation Zune (30 GB) for about 99 bucks. You might still be able to find some of those deals. I'm actually looking for this $99 deal for the Zune, so I'll post back if I find it again.
Yeah I got the $99 Zune. I really don't like the software and firmware. Also if you're Asian, know that Microsoft does not have asian character codec for the device. Good hardware though.
Well, if you can still find one, your best bet would be the Creative Vision: M. 30gb, plays most audio, movies, fm radio, recorder.. not a huge screen, but still very very nice. We have 2 of these at home, and even though it's a couple years old now, it still blows any regular ipod out of the water. You might be able to find some refurbs as low as $99.
Have you looked at the SANSA players? I have played around with one... they're allright... I have had an iPod 1st generation since forever and it's still working, and a video 20GB and have had no problems with it. Who says you have to use iTunes or Windows Media Player? You DON'T. If this is the reason you picked an "Archos", then it was the WRONG reason. If you're just being lazy and don't want to use them, that's another point. Now, if you aren't willing to find another solution... well..
I scored a Sansa 270 couple days ago from woot. It's been working great! I love the ability to just drag and drop without dealing with all the add-on softwares.
I love SanDisk products, I think they're intuitive and easy to use/good quality. I have a couple of Sansa MP3 players myself, but I wasn't aware they had video players as well. If there is a good deal on one with large storage capacity (at least 20gb), please pass it on. Thanks for all the suggestions so far, guys, keep 'em coming...
I dont want to get off topic, but I own a Archos 30gb and its ok. Although I noticed that it doesnt want to play songs that are from cds that I own. Does anyone know why this happens and what I can do about it? Thanks
No hijack... legitimate question. But... how does it know you don't OWN the CD? Does it ask you for a receipt?
Sorry about that, what I meant was that I have all diffrent types of music, but it will not play music that I ripped from actual cds. It will however play downloaded music from the internet.
I got it, man... i was being a jerk... i'm not usually like that... Anyway... are you ripping it in the same file type that your player would accept? Maybe you should see the type that the player allows, and also compare with the music you've downloaded, and match the Kbps and file type... it's just a suggestion...
I picked up the first generation Zune for my wife for $90 when it was still full price. She loves it.
I'd get a new Nano, tiger. They have a larger, high resolution screen and Apple's superb software. You might have to spend a little more, but it'd be worth it, IMO.
You know, if you would have stopped at "my wife", we could have had some fun with your post... but, nooOoOooOooo, you had to go and mess up a good post...
I got the Philips PMC723037 - 30GB Portable Media Center for my girlfriend for Christmas this past year. It was $120 brand new. She loves and I really like it too. You have to use Windows Media Player for music but everything else is drag and drop or record. I like it.
If it was for me, I would. But spend more money so someone else can enjoy the fruits of my labor? As Mark Jackson would say, "Come on, Deckard...you're better than that!"
