It looks like I'm going to be on the road again starting February. I will be spending time in the following locations. Southern England Milan Warsaw Beijing Seoul Tokyo Mumbai Buenos Aires Give me your suggestions on where to go and what to see. I think I will have at least 1-2 days of free time each location. Food suggestions are also appreciated.
Southern England: Go see a football (soccer) match. Try to find restaurants with foreign (non-British) food. Milan: If you are into opera, check out the Scala. Other than that, just walk around and enjoy the city, the food and seeing the women there. Make sure you don't stay in the outskirts, only the center of the city is nice. Warsaw: Never been there. Beijing: Obviously the Great Wall. I'm sure they also have nice fake markets, make sure customs doesn't catch you when you get back. Seoul: Eat some bulgogi (Korean BBQ) and just go out at night, that city is so vibrant, it's amazing. Tokyo: Make sure your hotel is in the center of the city, there are some hotels in Deira or so which really are not in Tokyo, so if you don't have much time, you wouldn't get much of the experience. Mumbai: Never been there. Buenos Aires: I stayed at a small family-run hotel called Art Suites (I think) and I can recommend it (that was in 2003). Best area to stay at would be Recoleta, I think. If you can squeeze in a flight to Iguazu Falls and back, it's pretty amazing. I went to some great steak restaurant with great wine, too, will try to look it up.
I'm so jealous. I'll fill in the blanks: Warsaw - same as Milan , except the Opera House starts with a W (Winske?) and you should walk around Old Town. There's a bunch of landmarks and monuments around the city to take a look at if you're interested in that. Mumbai - Great food - just make sure you eat at a good restaurant so you don't get sick, and don't drink the water or have dairy products if its a short stay. Lots of cool market places and stuff too to check out.
Hong Kong is really fun. I would add Kyoto to the list as well, and maybe a stop in Spain (Barcelona)
Amen on the soccer game. If there's one sporting event you should see, it's a good European soccer game. The atmosphere and environment are unmatched by any other venue I've ever seen. Even if you don't like soccer, you'll like a live match for the environment alone.
Add Brazil to your list (Rio de Janeiro and anywhere along the coast in Bahia). As for the cities you've already planned for, I lived in Milan for 4 months last year so I can give you some info. about the city. As already mentioned, La Scala is arguably the best in the world for opera. Most of the city is centered in and around the Duomo (cathedral) and you can move around really easily by foot or metro. There's a place called Big Pizza in the Ticinese neighborhood and they serve a really really big pizza -- it's amazing, you have to try it. You can find a lot of cool bars in the Ticinese and Brera areas. If you're into clubs, check out: - Magazzini Generali (huge warehouse type place that plays excellent electronic music -- lots of big name DJs and emceed at this place) - Hollywood (this place is one of the biggest model hangouts in Milan and pretty much everybody looks good) - Rolling Stone (this is one of Milan's more urban clubs and plays pretty much only hip hop music -- it's interesting to see how Italian hip hop culture is so different from the US) Let me know if you need anymore info.
I second this. The first European soccer game I ever attended was AC Milan vs. Juventus at the San Siro in Milan. It was one of the most surreal sporting events I've ever been a part of.
Actually this is for work so I don't have a choice on where I go. However, I've been to hong kong several times and it wasn't that enjoyable after the first time. Great food but the polution is aweful and there isn't that much to see. I think I'm most excited about Buenos Aires and Tokyo since I haven't spent much time in either place. Its funny how my job is perfect for young single people in regards to the travel but the people who get jobs like mine are almost always older, married and have kids. I'm trying to have as much fun as possible so I don't get burnt out on all the travel which is why I've been asking you guys for suggestions on where to go. You guys have been very helpful.
