GP to Houston? GP roportedly wants to leave the Lakers, and I was thinking that if the Rockets cannot get Fisher or someone else, why not go after the Glove? He is defensive minded just like JVG likes his players?
Our plan of getting Fisher may have a problem now ESPN said GP wants out if Shaq is traded. That will put the starting pg job back to Fisher. He may very well consider staying. Do you think it is worth trying to send $5M TE to lakers for GP? I know he sucked last season, but it may worth taking the 1-year risk. We have trouble spending that TE anyway.
I like the idea......... I mean...... GP in a defensive minded game plan might just be what this team needs........... I think the TE would a good way to get Payton here
I don't buy the fact that all of a sudden Payton lost all of his game. The Lakers were a horrible defensive team last year and a lot of if was because their PFs were horrible on defense and Shaq was a lazy @ss. Phil Jackson was also to stubborn to adjust his system. Payton still has game left, I think, Van Gundy is a defensive-minded coach that Payton would respect, especially since Van Gundy would allow Payton to run the offense. Payton would be reborn and want to prove the critics wrong and, most of all, he has one year left on his contract so it's a one year gamble. People are saying that the Rockets should wait a year instead of just throwing around money and inheriting a bad contract. Payton would allow the Rockets to save their money for a year, get a PG and not inherit a bad contract and potentially dump a bad contract.
i guess for a year is not bad. I dont know if he was tourched in the playoffs b/c of pic and roll or b/c of defense. Rather get someone young though. Oh well.
But, if you're Fisher, and you make a living off the low post game, would you rather be in Miami with Shaq, Houston with Yao, or LA with Grant? He's already let it be known that he is REALLY upset with Lakers management over their dealings with Shaq.
Did ya'll see GP play last season? If you want someone with that much ability on your team, I'll quit my night job & make myself available for the league min. Actually I'd do it for less, but the union won't let me!
I don't really want GP. I'd rather get Fisher..for less than 5 million a year.. I hope the Rockets do something..patience.
A couple of things. Payton actually played well the first month or so of the season. His game started fallen off when Phil Jackson implemented the triangle offense again after Malone went down. He still averaged about 5 assists per game, but that Lakers team was horrible. Payton's play fell off, Fox's play fell off, George's play fell off, Fisher's play fell off, everybody slipped but Kobe and Shaq. I just that was a case of a team that had WAY to many egoes imploding into itself. I'm not saying go get Payton at all costs, but I don't think he is as bad as he played last year.
Evenif Fisher and Payton can be obtained with same price, I would pick Fisher over Payton. We have witnessed that Payton can not play with Dominant big man and dominant scorer.
If we can get rid of Taylor and Griffin for Fox and Payton, i'll do it. Then we could use the MLE to get a combo big guy to man the backup center and pf at a decent price. It would really help our finances later. Payton as the starter and Lue as a backup sounds ok to me.
didnt GP have the option this year??? So why would he want to go to another team when he had the chance to b4?
exactaly what I was wondering. why the sudden change in mood? Something to do with Rudy's hiring? I mean, he knew Shaq was outta there; why'd he opt in in the first place?
