While I definitely wanted to win, I don't think you could seriously expect to win against the Warriors with both Francis and Mobley out. The Bulls might even beat us. When your top two options are out, that typically does cause problems. You might want to hold off on the back to mediocrity talk until you actually see our team at 100%. Throughout these 4 games, we have yet to see that.

Regardless of whether Cuttino and Steve were out, this game was very winnable. Without Stevie and Cat, we were still very much in the game after 3 quarters. There wasnt any problem then. But when the 4th comes, everything breaks down and we find ourselves down by 7.

On the bright side, Mo Tay is starting to resemble a good PF.

Take notice, this happens to the Rockets in EVERY game.

In the fourth quarter, the opponent starts trapping the ball after it crosses mid court. The other 3 defenders play the passing lanes. It has become VERY effective against the Rockets. Our offense has not figured out how to beat this strategy, and until they do, we will see a lot of it.

The Rockets, just don't know how to win consistently yet. They are young, if there is one thing this team could really use is a VOCAL veteran leader.

Dream is playing ok, but I would much rather have had Charles Barkley back this year.

Anyone who really looks at this team, and they looks at the competition in the west, would realize we are at least another year away.

It was not concern Swopa, just letting people know that the Warriors were also without some of their best players.

I have been watching this team on the dish, when the Rocks are not playing, I like the makeup. If you guys could get Hughes to shoot better, you could really improve.

Mark Jackson is a nice player, and I LOVE Jamison's game. When Fortsen gets back, you guys will really be tough.

The execution in the 4th is horrid. That comes with being young and teams starting to realize that. Teams are putting half court trapping pressure on the Rocks in the 4th and the team is folding. Ugh.

I was kind of wondering where the halfcourt-trap idea came from, since I can't recall GS trying it against anyone else this year (and Cowens isn't exactly Don Nelson when it comes to improvising schemes during games). They must have seen other teams succeeding with it on tape.

Essentially, the game consisted of HOU taking advantage of the injury-depleted GS frontcourt (specifically, Jackson and Jamison's lame interior defense) versus GS taking advantage of the injury-depleted HOU backcourt (specifically, the lack of ballhandling aside from Moochie).

The halfcourt trap let GS press its backcourt advantage in a way that kept HOU from pressing its frontcourt advantage, and that's what won the game.

Well, this thread is about as belligerent as they come. thx Clutch for dissing the clutchplays. Taking a shot at someone's internet hobby is pretty lame.

If you care, and apparently you don't, again you are missing a large part of history:

Our fourth quarter strategy against Golden State was primarily to go to the low post, ala the dump it in. Mo' and Hakeem got quickly doubled, and did nothing with the ball. That was an *large* part of the story of the fourth, because that was easily seen as the plan. You can't say we did the same thing as always and now Moochie is to blame for dribbling. And I just love how MManal also conveniently forgets how we went to the low post the most ever in the 4th this year, and nothing, because Mo and Hakeem have little to offer againt the double teams, so far. I'm sorry MManal, a star PF *must* beat a double in the 4th, or he isn't a star. It is called a turnaround jumper. If you can't bring it upon yourself to take my word for it, then ask Jonathan Feigan:

The Rockets first tried MManal's offense into the Post. It got nothing, but swing arounds for shots (the DIT). And your dis of Moochie come afterwards, once they stopped MManal's offense. And here is what Cowens has to say about them stopping Moochie...props to DaDakota on nailing this one:

And MManal I guess is going to again claim that passing over traps is a piece of cake.

Clutch, your recap is the first one out in the world. Accuracy is not the issue, you can even be biased against Mobley if you want. The thrill and emotions that you capture is what makes it great. But don't take offense if a season-ticket holder has a different memory, or watches tapes afterwards and begs to differ, or (like recently) just wants to add something to your take.

So tell me now....what do the clutchplays have to do with any of this?

HP, Hakeem received the ball a good amount in the post in the fourth, Mo received it maybe twice. He needs the ball more than twice down the stretch in the low block esp when Moochie is getting absolutely choked. I dont equate Hakeem and Mo's postups as the same thing b/c they are not. Mo as of now is more gifted on the low block than Hakeem is and should be getting those touches on the left block. Why dont you see how Mo handles the doubles if he gets it more than twice.

I dont engage in little semantics like you and try to question every little detail as to why Moochie couldnt move the ball. Bottom line, Moochie could not get the offense started, the ball was stagnated in one place and ball movement was completely non existant. The average fan sitting in Compaq Center could be there was a problem. Somehow, you try to apologize for him saying the defense adjusted, and he couldnt handle it. Bottom line, if Moochie isnt triggering the offense, and the ball isnt moving, dump it Mo atleast more than a few times. I dont look at little semantic trash like you like how to specifically handle a trap, bottom line get the ball out of there. Who cares whether you dribble out of it, pass over it, what not, thats a stupid waste of time worrying about something like that. I look at more important team issues, like is the ball movement good, is the ball standing in one place are the teammates getting involved. In the most basic sense, if Moochie is drawing multiple defenders is he able to handle that and create for a teammate or is he just running down the clock and jacking at the buzzer. Its pretty obvious we are not on the same wavelength but thats ok.

heypartner: Maybe I'm missing something, but I thought Clutch's post was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek with regards to the Clutch Plays part. I assumed he was taking a shot at the offense, not the diagramming of plays but maybe I'm missing something.

And why do you constantly assume I am dissing your man. I am not. I am the objective observer here because I try to read Rudy. I don't "blame Rudy into oblivion until he does what I want"; like you said you do. You will never be as objective as me with that backseat bashing attitude.

Nice how it took you a game (and verse and my commentary) to see how Moochie got choked. Again you are wrong though. The low post got choked before Moochie got choked. The game plan was clearly low post, first.

Your commentary is a dime a dozen because it is so full of "The Cat" biases. Leave the commentary to objective observers like DaDakota. You are better suited to just blaming Rudy into oblivion.

I was referring to the 4th quarter, (why dont you re-read my post a little more carefully), not the entire game. Thats my big issue, they are not going to Mo enough in the 4th. Going to Hakeem in the 4th and going to Mo in the 4th are different.

Also, part of game reaction is questioning strategy. Maybe in your little world of trying to examine traps it isnt but coaching, strategy and matchups are a big part of it. This is different from constant bashing of players and coaches that does go on sometimes in this forum. I criticized that Rudy went with the Thomas-Bullard-Williams frontline against Denver, and he has not done it since. Thus, I have not brought that up. If Rudy starts feeding Mo more in the 4th in the low block, I wont bring that up anymore either.

You make a good diplomat. But it was a cheap shot in my opinion, equivalent to me calling his game "Recaps" inaccurate. Name me one reason why clutchplays has anything to do with this, especially since they aren't really big discussion threads at all, nor ever mentioned by others. And add in the debating Clutch and I had the last couple of days about re-inventing history. Certainly feels targeted to me.

Really makes me want to release play #3 this weekend, for sure.

...maybe I should just start putting out speculative trade rumors, instead. Or fart around the planet like Bob Rainey and do mocking lies...screw this
