I've got too much time on my hands, so I'm off to see Styx tomorrow night under the Oregon stars at the Britt Music Festival. (Maybe it's a grand illusion, but I think I paid approximately three times the amount per ticket that I did when I last saw them at the Summit in 1979 or 1980... hey, what's a blue collar man to do?) I hope to see lots of babes and ladies there, but I might be fooling myself. Renegade, baby!
Dude, wrong forum. You know every time we give n00bs a glimpse into the top secret Styx forum, there is all this wailing and gnashing of teeth to get in.
Styx is unrecognizable at this point in time. Gone are the Panozzo brothers rythm section (John died of complications from alcohol abuse, while Chuck made his homosexuality and HIV+ public). At this time, Dennis DeYoung's closet door is still not ajar, however his homosexual tendencies forced him out of the band a few years ago (due to his love of Broadway). James "JY" Young and Tommy Shaw are all that is remaining of this once great 70's radiohead. Truly a sad story.
No Dennis DeYoung, but these classic rock bands are notorious for having revolving lineups. As for their music, very underrated. Great music to jam to if you were a teenager growing up in the late 70s.
I know, but I think it's time to include others... none of you old-timers have had anything new to say in several years.
Sorry to be a buzzkill but I'd be cautiously optomistic. I'm a HUGE Styx fan and was unbelievably excited to see them a couple years back at Arrowfest. However, they only played their new stuff (which is pretty bad) and they played all of their classics in a single montage, only playing :30-1:00 of each song. Imagine them playing a single verse of Renegade and then stopping...I can honestly say that was the biggest concert disappointment ever.
you do realize the chicks that were into them in 1980 are 30 years older now, so yeah, you are probably fooling yourself.
Why must you be such an angry young man? My guess is that you have too much time on your hands. I mean, it's not like he's looking for Mrs. America.
Best case scenario: Shaw is joined onstage by surprise guest Ted Nugent. Both don Oakley Blades, and belt out "High Enough".

I saw them in June and they were good , but Foreigner was on the same bill and they stole the show. Styx did do "High Enough" though.
Styx always seems to have the show stolen. The last time I saw them was at the Texxas Jam with Triumph, Ted Nugent, Sammy Hagar and Uriah Heap. Hagar, Rik Emmitt and Nuge did Whole Lotta Love for Sammy's encore. I guess folks figured Styx's Kilroy show couldnt surpass that, so most of the place cleared out before Styx ever came out. To me, Styx died when they gave in to DeYoung's wussy-rock sensibilities adn released Kilroy was Here. I have never bothered to go see them since.
