Anybody see the end of USC/Boston College today? USC, after making 1 of 2 free throws, was up 3 with 7 seconds left. Boston College went down there full speed, never even thinking "wait we're down 3, not 2" and went in for a buzzer beating layup and a putback, missing both. That's just 2 points fellas... needed 3... might want to check the scoreboard once in a while guys. ------------------ "We're not settling for just getting in the playoffs." "We want a higher seed. Yea I agree that was really dumb. That will be haunting him for a while. ------------------ ~John~ If you make it idiot proof, they will make a better idiot.
Well, I am not sure that the entire team was unaware of the score. The one guy who went in for the layup obviously was, but the guy who went for the putback basically had no choice because there was almost no time left at that point. Still, a horrible mistake... ------------------ "all your base are belong to us!" "you have no chance to survive make your time!" He later explained that he drove so he could get contact and make the basket and get a foul. ------------------ Note: It was my cowhead. I started the cowhead craze, and my cowhead inspired Mooch to step up and bring us a victory. Thank you for your time.
What Webber timeout. ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?
I'm surprised you haven't heard of it. It was a few years back and Michigan was playing someone...don't remember the details. 4th quarter, few secs left, Michigan ball, michigan down. Webber gets the ball in the corner and as time runs down, I *THINK*he is either falling out of bounds or gets double teamed with no way out and calls a timeout....the only problem is......Michigan doesn't have any timeouts left. Possession goes to the other team and Michigan loses. ------------------ Note: It was my cowhead. I started the cowhead craze, and my cowhead inspired Mooch to step up and bring us a victory. Thank you for your time.
That Michigan game was in the championship against UNC back in 1993. And not only did Michigan lose the ball, but UNC also got technical free throws, putting the game out of reach even if Michigan had gotten the ball back. ------------------
The Webber play was dumb - he should have known his team had no timeouts left, but the BC play was far worse looking. Everybody on the court should know the score of the game...didn't he know 3 to tie. You could see the reaction of one of his teammates - just left stunned. I don't blame the guy who tried to jam it in, gotta stop the clock somehow. USC isn't gonna foul the guy up 3, they are just gonna give him a clear path to the basket. ------------------
The Fab 5 was what really turned me on to college basketball and the tourney. I was depressed for a good week after that Webber timeout. I didn't see the BC play but you gotta feel for the kid that lost track of the score. Who do you feel worse for? The Wisconsin dude that missed those free throws at the end of the game or the BC dude that lost track of the score? ------------------ Forget LHutz, Bob Rainey is by far the coolest poster in cc.net history!
I feel bad for the Wisconsin guy more. His missed FT's cost Wisconsin the game. FT's are "supposed" to be freebies. There is no guarantee that the 3 pt shot would have gone in for BC if attempted, and it would only tie the game...USC was playing good D and the shot would have been contested (not an open look). I feel the worst for Al Skinnar, Cuttinos old coach who recruited him at URI and Now Head coach for BC the dude has NEVER caught a break as a basketball coach. he was pushed out of URI(but got more money) for his "poor" coaching/recruiting but Jim Harrick stepped in and basicly let Cat and Tyson cary him into the tourney for shame, because Herrick got all the credit. Looik at URI now... Those are the kids Herrick recruited losing all those games (makes me and every other true Kingston blue fan sick ok I have said my peace so... He thought he had a better chance of drawing contact. BC players generally play pretty smart with the exception of Sidney, who's just a freshman and doesn't remember getting the crap beat out of him the last few years. That game was awful. Oh well... that same day we won the Big East hockey championship . Sorta took the sting out of the blow... ------------------ Boston College - Big East -East Division Regular Season Champs Worst to First in 2001!
I felt SO bad for that Wisconsin kid...during the press conference after the game, he was talking about how HE cost the team the game, and how bad he felt about letting each player down. ------------------ Jazzkiller
