-Diamon Simpson is still technically on the roster, but CBSSports announced that the Rockets plan on releasing Simpson. I believe he has an offer from a team overseas.

-Current roster count is at 20. By the end of October the Rockets must cut or trade 5 players to get the roster down to the maximum of 15 regular season players.

4 out of these 8 will be cut + Simpson-

    -Fortson
    -Livingston(buyout)
    -Greg Smith
    -Machado
    -Brockman
    -Johnson
    -Douglas
    -Forbes

These players will definitely all be on the 15 man roster unless traded-
    -Asik
    -Delfino
    -T. Jones
    -Jeremy Lamb
    -Jeremy Lin
    -K. Martin
    -Marcus Morris
    -Motiejunas
    -Parsons
    -Patterson
    -R. White

I would expect the starting rotation to look like this-

    PG: Lin
    SG: Martin, Lamb
    SF:parsons, Morris
    PF:patterson, Jones, White, Motiejunas
    C: Asik,

    + 5 bench non-rotation players

Obviously they will try to work in a backup PG, and shift around the big man rotation, but as of now, this is what you are most likely to see unless trades are made.

I think Greg Smith is definitely still in the teams plans going forward provided they don't make another move for another center.

Dont we have to add salary to reach the payroll flooor still? Given we already have too many guaranteed or partially guaranteed contracts, doesnt that mean a trade almost has to happen to meet the payroll requirements of the cba?

I would say he's definitely more likely of the 8 to make the cut. However, he's still on a partially guaranteed contract that makes it very easy for him to be cut. Especially with the poor Summer League showing, he has some ground to cover in training camp if he wants to make the cut.

Morey stated in an interview a few weeks ago that this is something thats widely overblown, and not something they are worried about. I think they have till the end of the year to add salary so they are probably assuming that more moves will be made by the trade deadline to get where they need to. If not, the penalties they may pay might be better than the alternative of taking on salary just to take on salary.

The penalty for being below the salary floor.... is that the Rockets have to take the difference between the floor and their salary and distribute it among their players. If the salary floor is 30 million and the Rockets' salaries combine to 25 million, all Houston has to do is split 5 million among all the players. It's not really a serious penalty.

Salary floor is at ~49 mil. You are considerably above it atm.
Also, keep in mind, most of Scola's salary will count towards that limit (minus the portion paid by the Suns).

There's basically no chance for the Rockets to be under the salary floor this year, unless you trade a bunch of players for cap space.

Its easy to do, but dont forget about Morris.

Assuming everyone stays healthy(which they wont), McHale will want to shorten the rotation to 9 or 10 players max. At least two of these guys are going to get their feelings hurt early in the season Im sure of it. However, by January, Im sure all of these guys will get a chance to get rotation minutes due to injuries.
