I saw this show for the first time today. Do any of you think you can stump him? drapg? It seems tough... I only know about half the questions myself... but I definitely not the best at trivia. I can see how someone with a photographic memory could beat him... i.e. Ken Jennings after a month or so in the ESPN archives. But it's tough because likely the Schwab guy probably has a photographic memory too... and the final round format helps him because the breadth of knowledge it recquires necessitates someone to have worked in sports research their whole life. I dunno... and the grand prize isn't all that either. A trip to the ESPYs? What's that worth? $250? It's kind of fun to watch though... a little like Win Ben Stein's Money... the Schwab guy is just an average low key guy that knows an in credible amount about sports.
What was Tim Breuaxjasjfasl average in 1995? bet he doesn't know that I don't know how to spell his lastname but I remember it had an "x"
don't be so sure... but even if he didn't... the contestant(s) wouldn't either. plus ESPN writes the problems i think, so they won't write problems he won't know.
That guy is DAMN annoying, though...constantly adding facts to the question that nobody asked him--you could tell the contestants were even annoyed at times. But I suppose that's the point of the show--present a fat asswipe that's smarter than all of us, and he knows it.
Agreed. I find the theme music even more annoying. It just pisses me off; sounds like it's from a toy commercial or something. And his facts aren't facts; they're beyond useless crap. It'c not even trivia. Some of the stuff he says is common knowledge; I can't remember specifics, but when he was talking about the 500 home run hitters. Oh yeah, it was like 'Hank Aaron hit 755 home runs but never once in a season hit 50.' Ummm duh; yeah...okay??? I was waiting for some actual knowledge, but then I just laughed out of stunned stupidity/astonishment to that comment. The show format is terrible as well. Shows like this make ESPN even more of a **** than it is becomming. The airing of Happy Gilmore just about clinched it. I like the movie, but that's what USA Network is for; You don't show feature films loosely based on sport on ESPN. But I guess there's only so many hours of the World Series of Poker they can air. Uuuuuugggghhh. Conversely, Cheap Seats is quite possibly the funniest show on television. It's the best thing since MST3K. Too bad they're stuck on Classic; the Sklar brothers are awesome!
He reminds me of that dude from the game show network that knew all of the movie questions and always added extra useless info.
I have it on my TiVO, but I haven't watched it yet. My friends tell me there is no way I could hang with this guy, and that he's annoying for providing supplementary information about questions asked on the show (something I'm notorious for doing amongst my friends). They think he's fed the answers by ESPN, but I just tell them to stop drinking Haterade. Can't wait to watch last week's episode and tonight's episode back-to-back after work.
I just watched that show and I wasn't that impressed with this lardass. As others have mentioned, he is highly annoying, but having Stuart Scott on there makes it even worse. I also like the fact that none of the questions are from a long time ago, talking like pre-1960. Does this guy know who won the World Series in 1905 and over whom? But I know what ESPN is doing - they are making him as obnoxious as possible so that more people want to go on the show just to beat him. But my guess is that no one will beat him because as someone said earlier, ESPN probably writes the questions and wouldn't ask something he wouldn't know (like who won the 1905 World Series, etc). SPOILERS: A couple of things that stood out to me about this show: 1) On the Journeyman segment, I thought I was going to scream at this guy for constantly talking while these people were trying to do their rankings. And as others said, it was really stupid, useless WTF type stuff. 2) The woman that was on there was not bad looking but thought Lew Alcindor or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was the answer to about everything (the funniest was when she said he won the Naismith Award even though they were looking for people who had won it since Jordan, LOL!) 3) How in the world does this guy not know who made up the Fab Five is?? The fact that he did not know this makes me think that the questions are ones that are geared to make sure he wins (like stuff in the last 20 years compared to even earlier).
