My roommate's brother decided to take on the 'Four-Horseman' burger challenge as seen on Man vs. Food.

Just wanted to see if there is anything he could eat to make going to the bathroom a bit easier on him? So far we gave him ice cream. Figured I'd get a quicker answer here since there are some one you that are used to eating spicy foods. ( Indian? Hispanic? :p )

Well, he did manage to finish the burger in about 6 minutes. Although, one of the rules were that you couldn't spit (or throw up) during the five minute waiting period. He was OK the first minute, but according to him, the heat numbed up his face a bit, causing him to spit out some saliva. They said he was DQ'ed. :( He never threw up, though. We were kind of disappointed with the judgement.

Anyways, we're going to go pick some up for him. Thanks DD.

Ice cream supposedly has this effect if we are to believe vintage Cheech and Chong.

Is the ice cream for his ass or to eat along with the food?

Any whole dairy products will do.

I once ran into this problem about two decades ago with a similar contest (chicken wings made with hybrid/crossbred habinero/chilli pepper sauce) back in New York. The problem wasn't so much that my face was on fire but that it severely irritated my stomach. My wife and I were almost out the door to the hospital when my mother intervened. She mixed up a glass of basically everything diary that was in the fridge. If my recollection is right it was basically whole milk, sour cream, and half and half cream. It was nasty as hell but it worked within 20 minutes and I was basically back to normal with no after effects.

The dairy neutralizes the capsaicin in the peppers which causes the heat and irritation. Also avoid water for the short term (4 to 6 hours at most). It has little to no effect on capsaicin what so ever and in some instances can reactivate and make it flare up again.

I like Thai tea, a sweet milk tea, over ice cream. It's faster to drink your dairy than eat it. You can also do bubble tea without the tapioca.

Be sure to take some lactaid about 10 minutes before taking lots of dairy to help digest the lactose. There could be seriously intestinal pain from all that dairy.

I want to try this burger some day. The serrano and jalapenos won't be bad, but the ghost peppers and habanero sauce will hurt. That habanero sauce looks like some extract-based sauce, so that'd be even worse.

If you guys are in Florida, go to Munchies 420 Cafe and try the "Fire In Your Hole Wings". They obliterated Adam (of Man v. Food) when he attempted it and gave up. He said it was the hottest thing he's ever had. Understandable since it had extract of the hottest pepper on the planet (bhut jolokia). He barely made it through 2 wings before giving up. The contest calls for eating 10 wings in 20 minutes. I've seen videos of people scarfing those down like nothing, and I don't understand how unless they're somewhat impervious to the capsaicin.

Stay away from the Four Horsemen Burger. A guy I know tried it, and brought a cooler full of dairy products to help with the burn, but it wasn't enough. He wasn't even able to finish the burger, unwisely decided not to throw up while he had the chance, had hours of severe cramps and had to go to the ER.
