    depends on what you like....

there actually are some great bars here. my suggestion would be to go towards Loop 410 and Broadway (by the airport). There's a strip of bars there that will kind of remind you of 6th Street in Austin. Starting from the furthest north (1/2 mile north of 410) then heading south (to about 1/2 mile south of 410) there's...

Broadway Bar: nice place, usually has live music (rock). College crowd.

Carpools: closer to a club than a "bar", but has a unique atmosphere. House/Alternative music mostly.

The Hangar: gr8 looking bartenders, but place gets packed quickly. at that point, go somewhere else, cuz u won't get service.

Rebar: nice place also. a little more expensive than 1st 2, but worth it. gr8 patio. gr8 music on Wed-Sat.

Salud: Mexican National crowd, primarily. fantastic artwork. good music. a little pricier than it should be.

Karma: gr8 place! most expensive of all of the bars, but the quality of women makes it worth it. live dj, but not overbearing. good sake, too! cool art!

Revolution Room: all i'll say is...do it. go towards the weekend, walk all the way through the place (3 different rooms inside), and enjoy the eye candy.

if you're gonna be downtown and want someplace more refined and chill...especially if you're bringing a woman with you...

Club Cohiba: in the basement of the Havana Hotel (on Navarro Street), it's a 1920's cigar lounge. Never renovated, same feel. REFUSE to advertise the place because they want to keep it word of mouth only. EXCELLENT place despite a small size and pricy drinks.

    other than the bar scene.........

    1. hit the Guadalupe river (tubing)

    2. Botanical Gardens is gorgeous (my favorite place to go)

    3. The historic Missions (on the South Side)

    4. Go to a SA Missions game (minor league baseball)

    5. Go to a SA Rampage game (hockey)

    6. Check out a jazz club (Luna on San Pedro)

need more? if so, i can give you more ideas....

lots of hot Mexican chicks EVERYWHERE in san antonio.

i'm not a joe's volcano fan, but it is a popular place. Graham Central Station (410 & fredericksburg) is real popular, too. a little ghetto, but popular.

best place for hot Mexican chicks (nationals, that is) used to be Bar Azul. good lord i think women were required to be a 9 or 10 just to walk in there. management ran that place into the ground, unfortunately.

You don't have to go to SA for that, Houston is full of them ;)

I get what you're saying though, SA has a heavy Hispanic population.

Go To "Dick's Last Resort" on the riverwalk. Do it, and you'll have insane amounts of fun.

in that case check out the riverwalk, botanical gardens, the witte museum, SAMA (san antonio museum arts), etc.

oh, pick up a copy of the "San Antonio Current". it's free and it has all of the local events for the week.

SA can be fun...if you're into music check out the white rabbit, and like verse said the current has most of the upcoming events listed.

Went on a late night walking "Ghost Tour" last year and had fun. It really wasn't that scary, but I learned a good deal of history on it...

Whatever you do don't go to the Riverwalk thinking you're going to find great sports bars. I went to San Antonio for a Nine Inch Nails concert in October and walked around for nearly a half hour trying to find a place to watch teh Astros/Cardinals game before the concert. I had to settle for the bar at Joe's Crabshack of all places which had two 15" TVs... it was horrible but at least the Astros won!

I'm going to San Antonio next weekend! How perfect this thread showed up. I don't want family things though as my boyfriend and I will be going. Does anyone have bar or restaurant suggestions for near the Riverwalk?

The night tour and botanical gardens sound good too.
