I'm seriously thinking about moving to Beijing to study Mandarin for a year. I've been looking on-line for some programs but I was wondering if any of ya'll have done something like this and can recommend any programs. I'm 23 years old and looking for a program with kids around the same age (preferably with a lot of girls ). I would also consider myself an intermediate mandarin speaker.
There are a lot of school programs in China where they pay you to go over there for a year to teach English. You can take Mandarin classes for free in the school when you're not "working"
Don't you have to have some type of certification to do this? That would be a great experience but I'm not sure I have good enough Chinese to teach.
no you dont need certification. what they want you to do is speak in English 100% of the time in class basically because while teaching written English is not that hard to do, their interest is teaching students how to speak it properly. You wont have to tell them what a word means, your only real job is to show them how to pronounce an English word.
this is one of the many different types of programs I've seen on craigslist. http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/edu/334216933.html
Thanks for the info. It is something I will definitely consider, but I think I really need to learn Mandarin before anything else. Do you know of any study abroad programs?
heres one in Houston. man if I was younger, I would so do this. http://houston.craigslist.org/edu/337279459.html
