Okay, so as some people know, I'm going to this little school to become an X-ray tech. Problem is, there are only 6 people in the whole program, and the cost is 5,000 dollars. That's 5,000 dollars that I don't have, so I need a loan. Plus, books are about 800 dollars, so I'd need about a 6,000 dollar loan, total.

I called a bank here, and they told me that I need to talk to my financial aid officer (which I don't have, seeing as how the school is so small). So basically, I don't think I can get a loan from that bank. Now, I went to a local credit union, and they wanted to give me a loan, but it would be non-subsidized, and there is no way I can make enough money while going to this school (school lasts Monday through Friday, 8 to 4) to pay for this loan, and have enough money to eat and have gas and whatnot on.

I found one scholarship that I'm going to try for, but I'm generally unaware of many others. My biggest fear, though, is that now that I got accepted into this program, I won't have the money to pay for it. Does anyone know of any good banks (in the Northeastern US) or credit unions or scholarships that would be able to get me through this school?

As a very last ditch option, I can maybe just find a 2500 dollar loan to pay for the first year, and worry about the second year at a later date.

    Any help would be appreciated!

If you wont be going to school year around why not work during the summer? I'm sure it will be able to make enough to pay at least the interest on the loan while you're in school.. I think it would have been smarter if you thought out the financial aspect before possibly wasting money on your application.. You might want to check out the US Department of Education to see if your school can offer loans from the government..

    Good luck..

Well, the thing was, it was only 20 dollars to apply, and it's what I want to do, so I'm giving it every effort to go there, and I still fully expect to go.

As far as the school thing, it is year round, so that's what sucks about the work situation. It's too late now, to even save up, really.

    Thanks for the help, though.

try www.prosper.com if you don't mind having a big APR. since it's only for a small amount which you could pay back quickly, i think it's worth a shot. it's a site where people pool their money together (some as small as $50) to loan others for a price of course.

That looks like a really good site. I might give it a try if I can get the hang of it.

    Thanks!

Ahhh...A fellow X-ray tech! Hey Eddie you chose a good profession. I was in the military and got free training, so I didn't have to pay anything for my education. In your case, you might want to try ASRT (asrt.org) or ARRT (arrt.org) websites for scholarships. You can also google the word "Radiologic Technologist scholarships" and get a list of sites that can help you out.

The thing is once you get your loan, its going to be a cinch to pay it off since you're going to be in a high paying career field. I work in the portable x-ray business taking x-rays of elderly patients in nursing homes and assisted living places at 31 bucks an hour. I only work three days a work and still make a decent living. Some people chose the hospital setting and others choose imaging places--it all depends on your preferences. Good luck.

    Wohoo!

I actually went through an online loan site (College Funding Services). Even though my school only has 12 people, I let them know that I'd be getting my associate's from one of their approved schools, and that worked.

So, after looking for a loan for the first half of Summer and fretting, I'm finally (pretty much) free to enjoy my last Summer.

P.S. Sorry Macalu, it looked complicated. :p
