http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110302/ap_on_re_us/us_teacher_table_rattling ATHERTON, Calif. – A California school teacher was placed on paid administrative leave after he rattled a table to get the attention of his math students, startling an eighth-grade girl who used her cell phone to call police. Atherton police Sgt. Tim Lynch tells the Palo Alto Daily News that officers went to Selby Lane School Tuesday afternoon because of reports a teacher was causing a disturbance. Officers found a calm teacher with class in session. The sergeant says the teacher's table-rattling startled a student and she used her cell phone to call 911. He says other students in the class weren't bothered by the teacher's actions. Redwood City School District deputy superintendent John Baker says the teacher was placed on leave because there was a police response.
kids now a days. this is getting riducoulous. when i was in middle school the teacher punched his hand into the over head projector and broke the glass. no one as much as blinked. i think everyone just laughed it off. <img src="http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS8QCDoiGt5EJVXUHyHg2gwi8CZObPRVIt1RdcQmwbbyOA3Q7sKPA&t=1"> in case everyone forgot how one of those looks.
The teacher was causing a "disturbance"? That sounds like something the dispatcher would classify it as, not what an 8th grader would report it as. I wonder what the kid actually said was going on when they called? Maybe the dispatcher needs a warning as well, if he or she didn't use the correct judgment on that call.
Part of the reason we are falling behind the rest of the world in education is because we think it's reasonable and good to worship our children like little gods. But they're kids, and most kids need to be treated with discipline before they'll do anything "difficult" like paying attention in class.
Yeah, I want to hear the 911 call. Either the girl seriously lied about the extent of the "disturbance", or the dispatcher doesn't know how to do his/her job correctly. Regardless, the fact that an 8th grader places a 911 call on her cellphone in class is pretty mind-blowing.
forreal. I wanted to snap the necks of a couple of screaming belligerent 10 year old boys today. don't know why parents don't tell their kids to stfu.
i am not sure if anyone wants to mess with that. she is the type who calls the cops the next day after a one night stand claiming sexual assault/rape.
WILL SOMEBODY PLEEEEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!! one of my elementary teachers used to throw a brick at people who were sleeping. it was made of foam but still sounds menacing.
