This is what happens when rules are put in place as a result of hysteria. Zero Tolerance Policies are asinine and totalitarian; put in place by lazy people with no true sense of justice.
Wow, that's ridiculous. Maybe kids are expected to bring only peanut butter sandwiches and eat anything else with their bare hands. Can a sharpened pencil be considered a weapon?
What if another kid took it and stabbed someone with it? Most rules are in place for the abuse. . . unfortunately If you kid was killed with that knife .. . would you be ok with the fact that well . . girl just wanted to have good table manners? his is the world we live in . . . . Rocket River
Yeah that sucks but a 10 year old with a knife sounds dangerous. Why not a plastic knife? Anyway I doubt the kid is going to jail or juvenile center. They're probably just trying to scare her and make a point. Charges will be dropped and basically this will be a warning. Just don't do it next time..
About 15 years ago, when I was in middle school, two students got stabbed with a butchers knife. After that, they started bringing in the metal detectors. I have no problem with schools prohibiting anything sharper than a butter knife.
I hope they teach all these kids a lesson. For all of you who is complaining, let me tell you we live in a very dangerous world. We are in constant danger. We can't help it. It is for our own goods to put little girls in jails. Today, she is cutting her food, you don't know what she will be cutting tomorrow. What if a terrorist come in and pick up the knife? It can happen! The school principal needs to resign too. If they can't even prevent a little girl from bringing in a knife, how is he going to keep people from coming in and massacring the school? We need to all understand we are in war time. And there are people who are really upset with everything related to America.
What kind of knife? Is she cutting her hamburger with a 12" bowie knife? This could be a reasonable suspension for all we know. I was once suspended for bringing an MRE to school. It came with matches.
Arresting a 10 year old girl is just too much. Even her friends said they weren't threatened. They could've just gave her an in school punishment or call her parents.. but arrested? Do cops have no common sense anymore? Is the school defending the girl at all? Oh well.. just a good opportunity for me to further hate on cops.
need to follow the rules, need to punish her (and her parents) for it. arrest is excessive, clearly..
Nope there are a number of schools that are Peanut free because a few kids have allergies to peanuts and could die. The peanut is a very deadly weapon and should only be handled by adults. Mix peanuts and jelly and you have a very unstable combination.
the appropriate response would be to take the knife away, tell her not to bring it anymore and to inform her parents the same. anything beyond that just seems stupid.
Hell yea, haven't you seen the movie Hostel? Lock her up! my post makes as much sense as the punishment the little girl received.
