High caps are bull****. BIg difference between 5 mil a year and 15 mil a year 10 mil a year and 15 mil a year Whats the impact difference between 25mil a year and 30mil a year? that money seems not nearly as important Higher cap is going to build alot of super teams in big markets and will **** the small market teams. SUperstars will def take a pay cut if they are still bringing in 20mil a year,, they wont take that paycut if it means they will make only 8-10 we are seeing that right now with miami/bosh/melo ect..
Oh, nobody wants to come to the Lakers. Just watch. We just changed the rules so smaller teams can get a chance at superstars. The very first time Lakers go into suck mode let's change back the rules. NBA is the greediest sport I have ever seen. Those rules get manipulatED day and night.
Higher cap is good... i don't want to watch a bunch of crap teams. Give me 5 super teams over 20 mediocre teams any day!
I like it. It's not the NBA's job to keep small market teams on artificial life support with a low salary cap. This isn't a charity. Their job is to put out the best product. With more money going around for the players who I believe is currently underpaid, I don't see how that's a bad thing.
Everyone's salary will go up. It doesn't advantage anyone but teams that lock up their guys longterm before the cap raises that high. If the cap raises to 80 million then Parsons at 12 million a year could look like a bargain.
Btw, if this is true that the salary cap will be 80 million in 2016/17 then expect Dwight Howard to opt out. His max salary will start at 28 million (35%) instead of the 23 million that he is making.
The Rockets will be able to offer the 30 year old Dwight Howard a 5 year 162 million contract. His last year will be 37.3 million.
What rule changes are you complaining about? Stu Jackson isn't referring to any rule changes and no rules can change until AFTER the 2016/17 season. The increase in cap $ referred to by Jackson can only come as a result of increased basketball-related income by the league. The salary cap, as set in this CBA, is a specific percentage of the league's basketball-related income. So, as the NBA makes more money, the cap gets higher. Are you saying that the NBA is trying to favor the Lakers and such teams by making money?
James harden has a team option in 17/18 for 17.7 million. A bargain when his new max will be 24 million if the cap is 80 million. They could terminate the option and sign him to a new 5 year contract at the max 30% for players with 7-9 years of service for 139 million, average of 28 million a year.
See the thing is All Star NBA players have been severely underpaid for the past decade... Having an All Pro NBA player is more valuable than having just about any other player in any sport, so in reality Lebron is worth $50 million a year and Dwight is probably worth around $35-$40 million a year but the cap doesn't allow them to be paid what their worth is. Lebron is way more important to whichever team he plays for than Cristiano Ronaldo is to whichever team he plays for, so imo he should be paid like it. Thats why I have no problem with the cap going up and the players getting more money. The NBA is in a golden age right now where teams values are doubling about every 5 years so they should give the money they are making to the people that are making it for them.
The best 2 players in the NBA yea, but your average NBA All Star...? No way. And it kind of works out, Lebron is able to have more success by signing for less, which he can then profit off of through endorsement deals. That being said, the mentality that a player has to take a paycut to win is completely stupid. Owners are sitting back and grinning at this mentality being drilled into fans. For a player like Lebron, teams should be going in the LT...he shouldn't have to take a paycut.
